Saturdays, November 16 & December 21: Centering Prayer Retreat      Experience Scripture Meditation and Centering Prayer in the context of a retreat from the noise of daily life.  Space is limited.  Cost for the session is $10 and will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Sunday, November 17: Special Holiday Retreat "Preparation for the Holidays" Many people approach the Holidays with a sense of fear, anxiety, and trepidation.  Join Sr. Alice Holden for a quiet retreat that will help you to relax, focus, and remember the true meaning of Advent and Christmas.  Sponsored by the Center for Spirituality. Saturday, November 23: Light The Way The annual lighting of the campus is a longstanding tradition and the first ceremony of the season in San Antonio.  The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the McDermott Convocation Center and ends with a procession around the campus as the Christmas lights come on, ending at Central Market on Broadway for refreshments and entertainment.

Betty’s family joins her at the retirement party held in her honor. Drew Noga, along with Sr. Sally say their farewells to Betty.

Betty Monestier, Secretary to the principal of IWHS, retires after being with Incarnate Word since October 1, 1989.

The Incarnate Word community gives their best wishes to Betty and hopes she enjoys her retirement.

Late Night Catechism

The Charline McCombs Empire and Majestic Theater group is sponsoring an event called "Late Night Catechism" this season. Proceeds will benefit the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word.

Late Nite Catechism is an uproarious piece of theatre that takes audience members back –sometimes nostalgically, sometimes fearfully-to the children they once were. The irrepressible Sister teaches an adult catechism class to a roomful of “students” the (audience).

Tickets go on sale Nov. 16th at 10 a.m. and will be available online at Ticketmaster.com or at all Ticketmaster outlets including the Majestic Theatre Box Office, Foley’s or Charge-By-Phone at 224-9600. Ticket prices range from $33.50-$15. The performance schedule for Late Nite Catechism is Tuesday through Friday, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, 2-8 p.m.; Sundays at 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.

Cookbooks - the long awaited cookbook that was compiled by Campus Ministry from recipes submitted by the UIW community is finally here! The price is $8, if you pick it up or $10 if it is mailed.

Entertainment Books - two for one coupons to hundreds of San Antonio restaurants, many local attractions, services such as dry cleaning and car washes, and much more. This great book pays itself off after eating out just once or twice. The cost is $20.

UNICEF Christmas Cards - help support UNICEF’s good work for children by purchasing beautiful multi-lingual Christmas cards. Boxes are $10-$12.

UIW Hosts Free Creative Writing Workshops

SAN ANTONIO--- The Spanish Program from the Department of Foreign Language at the University of the Incarnate Word will be sponsoring various creative writing workshops for the community during the month of Nov.

The workshops will include sessions on how to write short stories for children, novels, songs, plays, and screenplays, all of them at no cost to the public, as a service to the community.

The presenter who will open the workshops will be Maria Novaro, a Mexican screenwriter and movie director that has directed four long feature movies, such as Danzon. She will discuss her current research on a movie about the Mexican border. The following is a schedule of the workshops, along with times and dates.

FAMOUS FOLKS

Dr. Binbin Jiang, is completing a three year EFL professional development program which she has directed for Colegio Morelos De Cuernavaca, a sister school of UIW in Mexico. The Program consisted of K-12 EFL teacher training, K-12 EFL textbook recommendations and proficiency standards development, and Grade 1-12 EFL proficiency test development and analysis. She has also been included in the Who’s Who Among American Teachers, 2002 edition.

Dr. Barbara Herlihy, Nursing and Sciences, conducted a day-long retreat at St. Matthews Catholic Church. The topic was “Coming to Life Through the Power of the Holy Spirit.”
