UIW dedicated a room in the Gorman Business & Education Center in honor of Dan Bennett

Bennett was honored for his longstanding support of UIW.

Play & Literacy Symposium

UIW hosted the Play & Literacy Symposium on Feb. 21. Over 150 teachers attended to hear the keynote speaker, Dr. Joe Frost. Dr. Frost is considered the father of play advocacy and the university’s first symposium of this kind was held in his honor.

Race For The Cure

Thousands of supporters will gather on Saturday morning, April 5 at the Alamodome for the sixth annual Komen San Antonio Race for the Cure. The annual event is a Co-Ed 5K Run/Walk and a 1 Mile Family Fun Walk to raise awareness and funding to benefit the national Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and its San Antonio Affiliate. UIW is supporting this important cause by organizing a team of runners and walkers to enter the event. Awards will be presented immediately following the Race to the largest team, the top fund-raising team, and the largest non-corporate team.

If you are interested in participating, please call Tina Patterson, our Team Captain, at ext. 3941. The deadline for receiving team applications is March 1, so please sign up now.

FAMOUS FOLKS

Dr. Anita L. Anderson, Assistant Professor of Psychology, was selected for inclusion on the list of “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, 2002. Dr. Anderson was nominated by two of her former students.

Esther Elena Lopez, Ph.D., adjunct faculty teaching psychology and business, and Michael William Mulnix, Ph.D., presented a paper titled “Education the Next Generation: Culture Centered Teaching for School-Aged Children.” The paper deals with the methodology of using interactive theatre as a teaching tool in a multicultural classroom.
