 AdCap Students from Corpus Christi

 

The Students of UIW from the Del Mar College in Corpus Christi are doing something great for the community of Corpus Christi.  The AdCap program will be participating in bagging over 150 brown gift bags for the homeless and gathering toys for the less fortunate children of Corpus Christi. Each bag will contain a new pair of socks, tooth brushes, fruit, shampoo, soap, first aid kits, information sheets of community resources from United Way, cookies, hand-made candy gift baggets, drinks, Christmas cards from the students of Kostoryz Elementary school, peanuts, raisins, and other treats. These students will prepare these beautiful bags that have each been hand decorated for someone special.

WHY: to give back to those less fortunate and give presents to the homeless 

Centering Prayer Retreat

Come experience Scripture Meditation and Centering Prayer in the context of a retreat from the noise of daily life.  Lunch on your own within walking distance or bring your lunch and enjoy the peaceful setting of the Incarnate Word grounds.

Dances of Universal Peace

From the beginning of time sacred movement, song and prayer have brought people together for celebration and as part of everyday life.  The Dances of Universal Peace are practiced in this timeless tradition of deep community sharing.

Covita Moroney facilitates dances in San Antonio, leading dance meetings and inviting area Dances of Universal Peace teachers/leaders to participate.  Call Covita at 573-6335 for details.

Woody Guthrie And The American Dream

Guthrie’s music is distinctly American and inevitably speaks to an egalitarian ideal that rings through Thomas Jefferson’s foundational words in the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

Clem Perez has selected twenty-four songs that demonstrate the extent to which Woody Guthries’s music is a herald to respect the rights and the dignity of all citizens, especially of the impoverished, the working poor and the disenfranchised.

Clem Perez teaches English at St. Philip’s College and has taught at the University of Texas at San Antonio.  He has performed folk music in the French Quarter in New Orleans and with several small groups in San Antonio.

Looking For A Time Share

Owners are no longer able to use their time-share week in the Perennial Vacation Club.  The week is fully paid for.  The annual dues are $515 for a 2 bedroom/2 bath fully furnished condo (sleeps 6) in any of the following locations: Neveda: Lake Tahoe,  Florida: Lakeland and Daytona Beach, Dominican Republic: Village Caraibe, Puerto Plata, Texas: Bandera Homestead.

All Units are completely furnished including washer/dryer and are well kept.  Owners would like to give ownership of this week to a responsible person who foresees that (s)he will be able to meet the annual dues and make use of the week.  A week may be banked one year giving the user two weeks the following year.  In addition, each location has several ten-day weeks a year. There is a one hundred dollar fee for transfer of ownership.
