2003 Fiesta Fashion Show

2003 Fiesta Fashion Show  2003 Fiesta Fashion Show

On April 21, 11 fashion students showcased their latest fashion garments designed while studying at UIW. The show was a huge success thanks to the hard work of the students who produced and directed the entire show. This annual event has grown every year and has easily become a Fiesta tradition.

An announcement was made at the show. The Fashion Design & Merchandising Department will dedicate a new addition to the School of Business, Applied Arts & Administration. This new center will be named the Juren/Sullivan Center for Fashion Management. It will incorporate the following programs: The Ruth Birmingham Juren Fashion Merchandising Program and the Ruth Eilene Sullivan Fashion Design program.

This addition recognizes two very influential women in the UIW community: Ruth Birmingham Juren, who is the wife of board member Dr. Dennis Juren and Ruth Eilene Sullivan, who is chairperson of the Board of Trustees. Juren and Sullivan are pictured at the fashion show in the photo above with Lou and Mickey Agnese.

Chapel Candles Still Burning

This is a message to all who requested blue candles in the chapel to signify their prayer for their loved ones in Iraq.

Lorraine Ewers has been taking wonderful care of the candles in Our Lady's Chapel. As the intensity of the war in Iraq winds down, we need your help. We want to know if you wish to keep a candle in chapel for your loved one individually. If so, please contact Lorraine at lewers@universe.uiwtx.edu. She will tell you how you can keep a light burning for your guy or gal. Campus Ministry would like to thank Lorraine for her devotion in caring for these candles on Mary's altar. I think everyone has appreciated being able to pray for your loved ones every time they enter the chapel.

At this point, campus ministry will keep three candles burning on the altar. One for those who have died, one for POWs and MIAs, and one for those still serving. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Lorraine (x6070) or Kathy Ruiz at (x2736).

Congratulations

The College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences is happy to announce that the Department of Theatre Arts at UIW was granted full accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) at the organization’s national conference April 10-12, 2003. The UIW Theatre Arts program joins NAST, the national accrediting body for University Theatre programs, as the only Theatre Arts program in San Antonio to earn such accreditation. NAST accreditation assures students (and the National Department of Education) that the program’s curriculum, facilities, and practices meet or surpass nationally recognized standards for the discipline.
