A New Year brings new traditions

LAC  LAC

UIW students at the Learning Assistance Center begin a new tradition in 2004. Former students attended an appreciation lunch given by Cristina Ariza, director, and were thanked for all their hard work. This luncheon gave them the opportunity to meet the new faces in the LAC and talk about their experiences and success at UIW. The LAC offers assistance through tutors, on more than 100 subjects, including study skills, time management and foreign languages, at no cost to students.

UIW is helping spread some love. UIW will be collecting valentine candy to send to soldiers along with valentine cards that will be made by local elementary students. All candy will be mailed Jan. 23. To make your donation, or for more information, please call Kristen Dicianna @ ext. 6099. UIW hopes to collect 200 pieces of candy.

Poetry Class

Using the book “Poetic Medicine” by John Fox as a guide, this study will call forth creativity in writing styles to express trapped feelings, articulate ideas and experiences, and deepen one's own sense of spiritual connection. Sr. Alice Holden will present this class. Remember to bring pen and paper.

When: 10 a.m.-12 noon, Jan. 22-March 18, Thursdays, (no class Feb. 12)

The UIW Department of Theatre Arts Presents
Remembering When

Under the direction of Maggie Hardy, this original production includes stories from the theatre staff interspersed with songs by Carol Sowa, accompanied by John Lile.

All performances take place in the Cheever Downstage II Theatre on the UIW campus.  UIW students, faculty and staff may attend free of charge.

Creativity and Meditation Retreat

Enjoy a day of meditation and reflection. This retreat provides participants the opportunity to deepen spiritual awareness through the creative process and through the contemplation of works of art.

It's A Girl

Congratulations to Gaby Gonzalez, from the McNair Scholars Program, and her husband, on the birth of their daughter. Belen Gabriela was born at 12:56 p.m. on Jan. 9 at Northeast Baptist Hospital. Belen weight 7 lbs. 13 oz. and was 20.25 inches long. Congratulations and the best of luck to Gaby and her family on their newest addition.
