Black History Month s being observed in the J.
E. and L. E. Mabee Library with a display case featuring pertinent
books and related items from the resource collections. A helpful
bibliography is also available to suggest further readings and
useful websites.

Feb. 13 Brazil’s Contemporary Politics and Economics
The Brazil Studies program presents a lecture on brazil’s politics
and economics from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dr. Larry Graham, UT-Austin’s
Vice-President for International Affairs will speak about current
political and economic developments since new President Luis
Ignacio de Silva took office in early January 2003. All members
of the UIW community are invited.
Feb. 21 WORLD OF PLAY
UIW and the Playwork Institute of the Americas present the Play
and Literacy Symposium IV.

CCVI Spirit Award
Nominations for the 2003 CCVI Spirit Award are due on Feb.
17. Nomination forms have been distributed in campus mailboxes
and are available also in the Library. Faculty, administrators,
staff, and students are invited to submit one or more nominations
by giving a brief description of how the person has demonstrated
the CCVI spirit both on the University campus and in the
larger
civic community.
The CCVI Spirit Award is given each year to a member of the
University faculty, administration, or staff. All members of
the campus community, lay and religious, part-time and full-time,
are eligible.
Selection of the honoree is made by a committee of faculty and
administrators,
including persons chosen for the award in past years. Presentation
of the award takes place in connection with the campus celebration
of
Incarnate Word Day on March 25.
Nomination forms should be returned by Feb. 17. They may be
dropped in campus mail and should be addressed to any member
of the Selection Committee: Sister Margaret Patrice Slattery,
