Celebrating Incarnate Word Day

Incarnate Word celebrated feast day, a day of joyful celebration on March 25. Plenty of activities were planned beginning with a lecture from distinguished speaker, Paul Loeb and ending with a Karaoke night. The CCVI Spirit Award was presented to Lorraine Ewers as the 2003 Recipient. The liturgy was held at 2:30 p.m. at our Lady’s Chapel. The CCVI Spirit Award is given each year to a member of the University faculty, administration, or staff. Lorraine is the Administrative Secretary to the Dean of Humanities, Arts & Soc. Sciences, and has been with UIW for 21 years. Incarnate Word High School and St. Anthony Catholic High School also awarded CCVI awards. The recipients from IWHS were Mrs. Diane Brown, Religion Faculty and Senior, Kimberly Reznicek. SACHS recipients were Mr. J.G. Gonzales, Faculty and coach, and Senior, Charles Sibley.

The students were presented with a plaque containing their names and will be hung in the lobby of each school. All received a framed certificate and a monetary award to be designated to a CCVI charity and toward the student’s tuition for college.

Faculty Appreciation Luncheon

UIW held an appreciation luncheon to thank all the faculty for their hard work. Some faculty were also recognized with Mission Awards. The following members were recipients of the Mission Awards: Sr. St. Pierre Cinquin Faith Award: Dr. Barbara Herlihy; Mother Columkille Colbert Service Award: Dr. Pat Lonchar; Sr. Margaret Rose Palmer Education Award: Dr. Susan Hall; Sr. Eleanor Ann Young Truth Award: Dr. Beth Senne-Duff; Sr. Maria Goretti Zehr Innovation Award: Dr. Annemarie Walsh.

Dr. Bernadette O’Connor was also presented with the 2003 Moody Professor Award.  The Moody Professorship reflects the level of scholarship, teaching excellence and community service, in and out of the UIW community that the recipient has attained throughout their time at the university. Dr. O’Connor is a 1961 alum of Incarnate Word High School and a 1966 graduate of the University.
