the Playwork Institute of the Americas invite you to celebrate.

fair will include an exhibit on current Brazilian economics, business,

DIVERSITY TRAINING
The next training sessions will be held:
Friday, April 19, 2002: 1-3 p.m.
Tuesday, April 30, 2002: 3–5 p.m.
Tuesday, May 14, 2002: 3-5 p.m.
Tuesday, May 21, 2002: 3-5 p.m.
All sessions are held in the Library Auditorium
and last approximately two hours. If you are lacking two of the
four required training hours, you could finish your requirement
in one session. Also, if you only need one hour, check in/out
at the hour break. Please contact Human Resources at 829-6019
if you need to know how many hours you have completed.
These sessions will cover harassment/discrimination
on the basis of gender, race, national origin and disability.

UIW Recycling
Starting in April, recycling
containers will be picked up every Friday
Please leave your containers outside
your office in the morning on Fridays
Please label your containers with your name
and room number
If you have not received a box for your recyclables
or want to get involved with our recycling team, please contact

People’s Law Returns
The San Antonio Bar Foundation will offer free
legal information to the public in select areas of law that may
directly impact their lives. Local attorney’s will share their
expertise in a series of classes in three different topics:
Elder Law
School Law
Employment Law
In addition, a series of classes addressing each
of these topic areas will be given in Spanish. Each topic area
will be divided into four 45-minute classes. After each session,
participants will be given an opportunity to ask questions and
to speak personally with the instructors. Light refreshments will
also be offered during the breaks between classes.

Registration begins @ 8 a.m.
The People’s Law School is offered as a public

NOTICES & SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Earth Day
WHAT: Art exhibit
WHEN: Thursday, April 25
from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
WHERE: Marian Hall
The UIW community will celebrate Earth Day through
an art exhibit. This art exhibit is the culmination of an art
contest for which the topic is recycling. St. Peter Prince of
the Apostles Elementary School will exhibit papier mache art made
out of newspapers. St. Anthony High School and Incarnate Word
High School will each have a multimedia exhibit. We are inviting
UIW students, faculty and staff to build fairy tales buildings
(castles, houses, etc.) using boxes. All the participants will
receive a certificate and each school will receive an award.

Association Election
The first election through Blackboard
was a great success. Here are the results:

Detailed results of the election
are posted outside the Campus Life Office in the Student Center.
Also, applications are now available in the Campus Life Office
for the four appointed positions: Student Concern Representative,
Parliamentarian/Historian, House of Representatives Liaison, and
Senate Liaison. Applications are due back by 5 p.m. on April
12.
Alumni Homecoming 2002
April 19-22, 2002 is the weekend for Alumni Homecoming
on campus, most of the events are open to anyone who might be
interested.
There will be a lecture on advanced nursing practice,
a demonstration of synchronized swimming, a number of art exhibits,
theatre and musical events, and much more.
The majority of the events will be on Saturday,
April 20, 2002. The Sister Charles Marie Frank Lecture and Poster
Presentation will be on Friday, April 19, 2002. The Homecoming
Mass and reception will be Sunday, April 21, 2002.

FAMOUS FOLKS
|
Dr. Fred Bock, was selected for Who’s
Who Among American Teachers, 2002. A former student nominated
him and he was selected.
Dr. Hubert R. Robichaux, Lecturer-in-Anthropology,
was the featured speaker at the annual banquet of the San Antonio
chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA). Dr.
Robichaux’s presentation was entitled “Amcoemt Writing: From Mesopotamia
to Mesoamerica.” He described the development and decipherment
of writing in ancient Sumer, ancient Egypt, and in the Maya region
of Mexico and Central America. His lecture ended with a discussion
of his own work on the ancient texts from Rio Azul, Guatemala.
Dr. Cyndi Wilson Porter, Asst. Vice President,
Extended Academic programs and Assistant Professor of Chemistry
was nominated by students for inclusion in the 2002 Who’s Who
Among American Teachers. She has also been asked to be on the
organizing committee for an new national accrediting body, AAOGPB.
She recently attended the HEWI 1st annual e-learning conference
at University of Maryland, College Park MD (March 2002) and also
gave a presentation at the Academic Excellence Online: Higher
Education Opportunities for Federal Workforce in Washington D.C.
(March 2002)
On Wednesday, March 20th, UIW composers Dr.
Ken Metz and Dr. Misook Kim were honored to have their
original compositions performed at the UTSA New Music Festival.
Metz and Kim teach private composition lessons for the UIW Music
department.
Dr. Bob Connelly, attended the annual
conference of the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics,
February 28-March 3, and presented his paper, “Physicians and
Capital Punishment: An Inconsistent Death Ethic.”
