Village of Avoca Apartments

The Village of Avoca Apartments are designed to be transitional housing which enables students to experience apartment living while retaining the special benefits of on-campus residency. Each apartment consists of a kitchen, furnished living rooms, and 2 double-occupancy rooms, which share a bathroom. Each bedroom has two bunkable beds, two large desks, two chests of drawers, and closet space for each student. The living room features a bay window, cable connection and built-in bookshelves. A refrigerator, electric self-cleaning oven, and dishwasher are provided in the kitchen. The University provides living room and dining room furniture. Each bedroom is 10' by 16' and has a computer data jack per student and phone connection. There are apartments designed to accommodate students with mobility difficulties. The Avoca Apartments are reserved for upperclass students and those who are of legal drinking age may possess alcoholic beverages in their rooms.

The apartments are built on the site of the famous lost town of Avoca, established in the mid-1830s by Irishman William Howth. Avoca is listed in the Texas almanac as one of the 40 famous Texas ghosts towns. Remnants of the old Village of Avoca and its water-powered grist mill, active in the mid-Nineteenth Century, can still be seen west of Miller’s pond, adjacent to the soccer field.
