Some arguments to support writing across the curriculum

  • Elaboration is a technique proven to deepen student understanding.  Writing in the content areas is an elaboration method, and deepens understanding of the subject.
  • Transfer of learning is like a rope, easier to pull than to push.  We will be more successful pulling transfer from First Year Composition courses into other subject areas than vice versa.
