President’s Christmas Spaghetti Dinner Dr. Louis Agnese, Jr. does more than just know how to efficiently run Incarnate Word and its programs, he, like all good Italians knows how to cook. The Spaghetti Dinner will be held from 4:30 p.m.– 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 27 in the Marian Hall Food Court. The event has been a tradition for the university for many years. Each year Dr. Agnese, the faculty, staff, and administrators serve UIW students a traditional Christmas dinner. The Christmas dinner consists of a spaghetti entrée with a salad and choice of dessert. The entire dinner is cooked and served by the volunteers from the faculty, staff, and administration. The spaghetti sauce is especially prepared by Dr. Agnese and homemade desserts can be donated by any employee. The dinner is much like dining at a nice restaurant, without the big expense. The event is free to all students who are currently enrolled and for a nominal fee their guests are allowed to dine with them. “We convert the cafeteria into a restaurant for fine dining,” said Renee Moore, Dean of Campus Life. The Spaghetti Dinner even has a real live Santa Claus show up to entertain the students. This year, a Christmas tree filled with stuffed animals will serve as decoration for the event. The stuffed animals are being accepted as ornaments for the tree and will be given as donations to children from the Healy Murphy Center. For more information on the Spaghetti Dinner or on donating a stuffed animal, contact the Campus Life Office at 829-6034. UIW Chorale and Madrigals Annual Christmas Concert The University of the Incarnate Word Chorale and Madrigals will present their annual Christmas concert at 3 p.m. on Dec. 2 in Our Lady’s Chapel, located in the Administration building. The Christmas concert has become a tradition for the university since the choir was formed. The choirs will perform beautiful holiday music of many different styles and nationalities. Associate professor of Music, William Gokelman likes to make the concert encompass all the different nationalities in the concert, “I try to get music that incorporates different cultures to keep up with the global view of the university,” he said. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 829-3848. |

| Dear U-R-Fit,
I have a problem. The holidays are approaching and every house I visit will be filled with great food! This is the time of year I always gain extra pounds. How can I stop this from happening again this year? Sincerely, “Waistband Getting-too-tight”
Dear Waistband Getting-too-tight, Don’t worry, you’re not the only one dealing with the issue; you are not alone! There are a few things I would suggest you do when visiting over the holiday season. When eating all those great holiday foods, you must decide which foods are a must on your plate! Pick your favorites and limit your amount of them. Smaller portions will help you stay fit, don’t eat everything in sight...be selective. For every piece of pie, cake, or cookies you eat, you should add extra minutes to your workout. If you know you’re headed to a feast that day, exercise that morning or throw in an extra walk or jog. After dinner, walk or do something to help you digest that food. If you work out 3 days a week, you may want to increase it to 4 or 5 days during the holidays. Enjoy your favorite piece of pie… you deserve it. Your body also deserves to stay fit! Exercise during the holidays… it will pay off. Enjoy yourself! Thanks for sharing, U-R- Fit * If you have a question about fitness, please feel free to e-mail rfrankli@universe.uiwtx.edu or call the Center for Well Being at 829-3815 and ask for Robin. We can design a workout program for you here at UIW at the Center for Well Being. |
