New Professors Emeritae in 2004

VIRGINIA HANSEN, assistant professor in 1980 celebrated her 25th anniversary at Incarnate Word before her retirement. Hansen earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in home economics from Stout University. Before she came to IWC she taught high school in Wausaw, Wis. and was the supervisor of student teachers in Durand, Wis. In 1972, Hansen was named chair of the department of home economics and in 1974 appointed assistant professor of home economics, and also served on the advisory board of the Northside Independent School District. She served in the American Home Economics Association, Texas Home Economics Association, American Vocational Association, Vocational Homemaking Teachers of Texas, National Association of Teachers of Home Economics and the Home Economics Education Association. She is the mother of three, including 1979 BBA alumna Sandra Hansen Cornyn, and grandmother of three. She is now 85 years young.

MARGARET BRAY STAPPER, assistant professor, joined the IWC faculty in 1965 and retired in 1978. A native Texan, Stapper graduated from Powell High School and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at North Texas State University, and completed graduate work at Texas Woman's University and New York University. She is a member of the Delta Psi Kappa national honor society in physical education and life member and former officer of NEA, PTA, TSTA, TAHPE, AAHPER and Delta Kappa Gamma, plus listing in Who's Who of American Women. Stapper has taught in several public schools in Longview, Austin, Corpus Christi and San Antonio and at Texas Wesleyan College, Arkansas State Teachers College, Arkansas State College, Texas Woman's University, Mercer University in Georgia and at North Texas State University as a graduate student. At Incarnate Word, Stapper moved from instructor to assistant professor of health education and taught a wide variety of health courses and driver's education certification for teachers. She coached women's basketball at Incarnate Word College and served as athletic director. She is a longtime member of the Beautify San Antonio Association. Stapper has maintained close ties with Incarnate Word and our alumni, and is an avid supporter. Stapper is the widow of Bruno Stapper, and they had no children. She is now 80.
