CHAPTER MEETINGS
Pensacola, Florida
Julianne [Poth, BS '53] and Oliver Semmes hosted a
dinner for alumni in the Pensacola area last October. Attending
were Dr David Lozano, BS '93 of Laredo, completing his three-year
residency in children's pulmonology and his guest, Karen; Martha
Baker, '66; Maureen Halligan, Hon. '71, and Dick McCracken.
El Paso
El Paso is rapidly becoming the Texas city with the most UIW students
after San Antonio, and with 75 alumni in the area the chapter is
very active. Each February alumni and alumnae turn out to meet prospective
students and parents and manage to sing the praises of UIW and San
Antonio each time.
Corpus Christi
The recent graduates of the Adult Degree Completion Program on the
Del Mar campus are wasting no time getting a chapter organized.
They have had some events and plan even more. The two December 2000
alumni working at organizing the group are Daniel McKenzie
and Jean Fiegel. In addition to Dan McKenzie, '00, others
at the recent information night in Corpus Christi were former IWHS
Chaplain and UIW faculty member Most Rev. Edmond Carmody, Bishop
of Corpus Christi, Sister Margaret Mannion, CCVI, '66, Martha
Baker, '66, Sister Germaine Corbin, CCVI, '62 and Dr.
Mary Beth Swofford, '74, '77.
Rio Grande Valley
Sister Germaine Corbin, CCVI also joined the Admissions and
Financial Aid staff at information nights in Harlingen and McAllen
where she met Maria Hughes, '97, a reporter for the Valley
Sun, and Barbara Heater, '73 and Ida [B.B.] Garza,
'75 who helped provide information on Incarnate Word.
