Dear UIW and Ms. Gilliland,

I am so proud of these three nurses, Ms. Norton, Ms. Pais and Miss. Estrada. These three nurses along with more than 70 additional San Antonio and Texas based medical professionals have made a significant difference in the lives of thousands in Haiti in the last 6 months. I am more than grateful to Ms. Gilliland and UIW for allowing these nurses an educational experience that is so impactful it is difficult to describe in words, but will impact their future patients and professionalism so positively. Angel Staffing continues to send nurses to Haiti and we are now reaching out to other opportunities in Africa. I am the CEO of Angel Staffing, and established the foundation that made these experiences possible over 2 years ago....not knowing what the purpose of the foundation was going to develop into. We now know, the Angel Staffing Charitable Foundation was waiting for Haiti. These Nurses represented the true UIW values and the spirit of San Antonio.

Respectfully,
Shannon Ralston, RN BSN

I remember very well the show put on during the centennial year of 1983. The venue was Marian Hall Ballroom, and the students modeled their own creations. They day before the show, Marian Hall Ballroom was filled with a load of antiques that were being auctioned as a centennial year fundraiser; unfortunately, the truck bringing the antiques to campus was stolen and the theives tried to burn the truck. Consequently, when Sr. Mary Elizabeth and her students arrived the morning of the show to set up, the ballroom reaked of burnt wood and dust! What a mess! But they rolled up their sleeves, sprayed can after can of room freshener, and managed to put on a terrific show! I will never forget watching the show, or Sr. Mary Elizabeth Joyce and her 'can do' spirit!
