UIW students reach out to San Antonio communityNov 29th, 2011 | Category: Campus News
More than 200 students and 26 faculty members served nearly two dozen worthy projects and organizations throughout San Antonio during University of the Incarnate Word’s annual Meet the Mission day of service.
UIW professor Dr. Harold Rodinsky led the sixth annual Meet the Mission event, a university-wide day of community service and collaboration between faculty and students who reach out to the community by providing necessary services to the underserved and the needy.
“This year was a success in terms of participation both by service agencies and our student-faculty teams,” Rodinsky said.
Meet the Mission is a continuation of the Mission of service that brought the first Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word to San Antonio in 1881. Community service is an integral part of each student’s educational experience at UIW.
Many of the groups also took VIA Metropolitan Transit to reach their destinations. This form of transportation allowed university students to learn more about San Antonio’s public transportation system, and meet some members of our community for whom VIA is the primary transportation.
