Nov 20th, 2009 | Category: Campus News

Among members of the Planned Giving Council are Enzo Pellegrino ’02 (from left), of Texas Legacy Wealth Management; Harry Wolff, of Cox and Smith; UIW General Counsel Cynthia Escamilla; Bob Wehmeyer, of Jefferson Bank; UIW president Dr. Louis Agnese; UIW Board of Trustees member David Cibrian, of Strasburger & Price; Danny Buck, of The Trust Company; Pam Parish, of Broadway Bank; Todd Thomas, of Wortham Insurance; attorney Kathy Elder ’00; John Ballantyne ’06, of AXA Advisors; and Margie Boldrick, of Heinrichs & De Gennaro.

The first meeting of the new UIW Planned Giving Council was held in September. Chaired by university trustee and San Antonio attorney David Cibrian, council members include respected professionals from the areas of estate, tax, financial and insurance planning. The council is comprised of estate planning attorneys, certified public accountants, trust officers, financial planners and insurance professionals.

Advisers serve an increasingly important role in the often complex field of estate planning and deferred or planned giving. Planned gifts are typically those made through an individual’s will or estate plan, such as a bequest, but they also can be gifts created during an individual’s lifetime, including charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts and gifts of property and life insurance. Council members will advise UIW on its planned giving program and serve as a resource for alumni, friends and donors as needed.
