UIW awarded CIC Grant

Leslie_Todd_ILsessionThe Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) has awarded UIW’s College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences a second Information Fluency in the Disciplines grant.  The grants allow participants to attend workshops that strengthen or develop information fluency (also called information literacy) programs in a particular discipline.

The 2014 workshop covers Philosophy, Religious Studies, and the History of Ideas.  Drs. Jack Healy, Adrienne Ambrose and Doug Gilmour will represent CHASS and Leslie Todd will represent the library.  The conference is being held February 13 – 15th in Charleston, South Carolina.

CHASS received its first CIC grant in 2011 for the Literature workshop.  Leslie Todd and Drs. Bob Connelly, Matthias Schubnell, and Hector Perez developed a tiered instruction program for Composition I, Composition II, and World Literature classes.  In the Fall 2013 semester, the library instruction team taught 33 Composition I classes, reaching 590 students; 10 Composition II classes, reaching 152 students; and 24 World Literature classes, reaching 454 students.
