New Blackboard Features for 2014!

bbBlackboard has been improved for 2014 with new features and tools. These include:

Test Availability:

  • The new settings allow instructors to select one or more groups of students and make exceptions to provide accommodations for language differences or disabilities.

Discussions:

  • Instructors now can require students to first post to a forum before they can see other students’ posts.
  • Inline replies: When replying to a post, the response appears on the same page, in the context of the discussion.
  • “Post First” Discussions: When creating a forum, instructors require participants to create a thread in order or post to a discussion before seeing other students’ posts.

The Calendar:

  • Display a consolidated view of all institution, course, organization, and personal calendar events for a user. Calendar events are color coded to indicate which course they belong.
  • Instructors can use the calendar tool as a primary way of managing and communicating the schedule of events and assignments in the course.
  • Calendar supports due dates, if set, for gradable items.

Grade Center:

  • Inline Grading for Assignments allows instructors to view student-submitted files in the web browser, enabling Instructors to provide feedback – comments, highlights, and even drawing/annotation – directly on the inline view of the document.
  • There is now an enhancement to allow for schema percentages to be greater than 100%.

Date Management

  • Date Management gives instructors the ability see all “Display After” and “Display Until” dates in one place, and can further validate and tweak dates in a single user interface, which greatly streamlines his or her process. All Blackboard Learn items with dates are supported in Date Management.

We will be featuring these tools and features during upcoming Blackboard User Group sessions:

  • Friday, February 14, noon – 1:00 pm, GB212. An overview of Blackboard’s new Discussion Board:
    • Instructors now can require students to first post to a forum before they can see other students’ posts.
    • All of the posts in a thread are now visible at the same time on one page.
    • When replying to a post, the response appears on the same page, in the context of the discussion.
  • Friday, February 21, noon – 1:00 pm, GB212. Date Management. When instructors use a previous course’s content & settings as the basis for a new course using the Course Copy tool, Date Management gives instructors the ability to enable Blackboard to automatically “shift” dates in a course in a highly efficient way. The instructor sees all the dates in one place, and can further validate and tweak dates in a single user interface, which greatly streamlines this process.
  • Friday, March 21, noon – 1:00 pm, GB212. Inline Grading and Point adjustment tools. See how the Grade Center’s Inline Grading Tool may now be used to seamlessly assess Blackboard Wikis, Blogs, Journals and the Discussion Board. In addition, we will show you how to create grading schemas.
