IR Report: 2014 Tech Fair is April 9

On behalf of the Information Resources Division, I would like to invite all students, faculty, staff and administrators to visit the 2014 Tech Fair on Duffy210114Wednesday, April 9th in the Marian Hall Ballroom.

Now in its fourth year, the Tech Fair continues to grow!  This year will include demonstrations of how students, faculty and staff are using technology to enhance teaching, learning and the student experience. The fair will be host to 18 vendors, including AT&T, Blackboard, Dell, ExamSoft and Tableau, each highlighting new technologies.

This year’s event kicks off at 9:00 a.m. in the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Library auditorium, with a special higher education technology guest keynote speaker, who will discuss “Mobility in Higher Education.” (If I could tell you who it is, I would.  But, we are bound by non-disclosure.)

I am impressed with the innovative ways in which our faculty members integrate technology into the curriculum, and I encourage you to come out and see some of their creative work. This year’s Fair will also highlight technologies that continue to evolve, such as the e-book and lecture capture and streaming solutions.

Faculty presentations include Convergent Media’s Dr. Joey Lopez, who will discuss using technology for community engagement and Computer Information System’s Phil Youngblood, who will present his work in Second Life and Open Sim.  Additionally, the Graduate Support Center’s David Ortiz will demonstrate the Center’s use of video production on the iPad.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we’ll also have some great door prizes for attendees, including gift cards, T-shirts, and more.  And, yes, food will be available throughout the day.

Presentations, demos, food and giveaways will continue throughout the day, so please drop by, visit the exhibits, stay for a presentation, and enjoy some refreshments.

We’ll look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, April 9th at 9:00 am for the keynote address and from 10:00 to 3:00 in the Marian Hall Ballroom.
