Infrastructure Upgrade Increases Speed, Reliability

Infrastructure Upgrade During the weekend of February 22, UIW reached another milestone in upgrading the campus infrastructure to support the technology needs of the community.

Working Saturday evening into early Sunday morning, Infrastructure Services completed an upgrade of our network that doubled the amount of bandwidth available to the campus from 1,000 Megabits per second (Mbps) to 2,000 Mbps.

The additional capacity, provided by Hurricane Electric and Time Warner, enters the campus near the International Conference Center, providing redundancy to the original line, which crosses Hildebrand from service provider AT & T.

Should service on one line be interrupted by construction or technical problems, the other should continue to provide Internet access to the campus.

This upgrade follows last year’s increase from 300 to 1,000 Mbps, meaning UIW has increased available bandwidth almost seven fold over a year ago.
