Donde Esta May Winner

Congratulations to Roz Grimes, Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and winner of the May Donde Esta en UIW Photo Contest. She will receive a $25 iTunes gift card.

Roz, who has been with UIW for 12 years, correctly identified the photo as being of a leaf detail carved into the granite stone at the base of the large oak outside the Agnese-Sosa Living Learning Center.

The stone, a gift of the Incarnate Word College Alumnae Association, was dedicated on August 18, 1937 by the Honorable Martin H. Carmody, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus. It honors the Most Rev. Simon S Garriga, the first president of Incarnate Word College.

In May, 2012, the area in which the stone sits was dedicated as the Friendship Garden, thanks to a generous gift from Board Members Barbara and Allen Dreeben.

Congratulations to the library’s Information Literacy Coordinator Leslie Todd, winner of the Donde Esta April Part II Photo Contest. She will receive a $25 iTunes gift card.

Leslie, who is approaching her tenth anniversary with the university, correctly identified the photo as being of the rabbit found in the Sustainability Garden, located between the Gorman Building and Clement Hall.

Congratulations to Coordinator of Student Disability Services Michelle Beasley, winner of the Donde Esta April Part I Photo Contest. She will receive a $25 iTunes gift card.

Michelle correctly identified the photo as being of a skeleton found in the Saidoff Center’s School of Physical Therapy’s Gait and Movement Analysis Lab.

 

 

 


Donde Esta en UIW? March II Winner

dondeestamarch2Congratulations to Dean Emeritus of Library Services Dr. Mendell Morgan, winner of the Donde Esta March Part II Photo Contest. He will receive a $25 iTunes gift card.

Dr. Morgan correctly identified the photo as being of a portion of the Laszlo Ujhazy bust, in the atrium of the J. E. and L. E. Mabee Library near Finnegan’s.  The bust was a gift of the San Antonio Hungarian Society.

Congratulations to Brandy Garcia Associate Registrar and winner of the first March Donde Esta Photo Contest. She will receive a $25 iTunes gift card.

Brandy correctly identified the photo as being of the tile mosaic decorating the wall above the entrance to the Bonilla Science Hall.

Congratulations to Jo Ann Ybarra, Student Resource Specialist in the Registrar’s Office and winner of the second February Donde Esta Photo Contest. She will receive a $25 iTunes gift card.

Jo Ann correctly identified the photo as the Cardinal ornament on the top of the bird feeder in the Phil Bell Garden, behind the administration building.

The garden was dedicated in 2006 in the memory of long time Director of Special Events Phillip Bell, who passed away in 2005. Bell, along with his wife Julie and their children, spent many hours in the space, especially during the lead-up to Light the Way, where they would lead volunteers in preparing the strings of holiday lights that would later adorn the campus.

Congratulations to Gianni Gomez, the February “Donde Esta en UIW” winner. Ms. Gomez has been with the university for more than five years, working as the secretary to the registrar, and will receive a $25 iTunes gift card.

The photo, taken by IRD’s Adela Gott, is a detail shot of a wood carving of the holy family from the second floor foyer of the library, in the area outside the Special Collections suite.

It was donated by Lydia Sada de Gonzalez, a native of Monterrey, Mexico, whose art collection found its way into many museums in Mexico and in the United States. Ms. Sada de Gonzalez was awarded a Doctorate of Humane Letters from the university in 2001.
