Study Abroad

Procedures

It is not required that you know whether you really want to go abroad, where you want to go, when you want to go, etc. Even if you have just the desire to fulfill a dream, we invite you to come and visit with us at the Study Abroad Office.

Once you have decided that you are interested in Studying Abroad there are a few steps you should follow. First go check out the Sister Schools and the rest of the webpage, then contact the Office of Study Abroad. When you are ready to get started follow these easy steps:

The following policies apply to enrollment in courses through the Study Abroad program:

  1. Students must be in good academic standing.
  2. Candidates must receive approval of their Academic Advisor and Dean as well as the Director of Study Abroad and Financial Assistance before departing to the country where the study is intended or before enrolling in the approved institution.
  3. Candidates should complete the Study Abroad Application approximately three to four months before they intend to leave.

Please be aware that the Transfer Credit Policy applies to participants in the Study Abroad program:

  1. CLEP and CLUB credits are considered transfer credits and will be calculated in the 92-semester hour limit.
  2. The final 39 hours must be completed in residence at UIW (study at a Sister School is considered as in residence).

After completing the study abroad, it is the student's responsibility to provide the Registrar's Office with an official transcript reflecting the completion of the courses.
