BeginUIW

Begin UIW is an exciting program the University offers to first-time freshmen needing to take MATH 0318 and ENGL 0311L. Students who are accepted into the program have the opportunity to complete both of these courses in only four weeks during the summer, giving them the chance to get ahead in their studies, at a greatly reduced cost.

What to Expect

Program participants will take classes taught by professors who are committed to helping first-year students succeed. They will have the added benefit of built-in study hall sessions during which they can work on homework, study for tests, or ask questions of Begin UIW program tutors. Several workshops will be led by professionals in the Division of Student Success to give students the academic strategies they will need to navigate the challenges of college. This four-week program is intensive, and students need to be sure they can commit to attending each class session before choosing to enroll in Begin UIW.

During Session 2, a housing component will be offered to select students who apply and qualify for a need based scholarship. Students awarded with this scholarship will have all expenses covered but they must agree to attend all student success programming. Students who participate in the housing portion of Begin UIW will have access to extra evening study hall sessions, trained Resident Assistants who are familiar with the campus, and evening activities specially designed to acquaint new students with life at UIW. Students will select one of two available sessions:

Dates for Session 1: June 15th – July 10th Monday- Friday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Dates for Session 2: July 13th – August 7th: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
