STUDENT SALES AND FUNDRAISING

Fund raisers are an ideal source of income for student organizations and may be conducted by registered student organizations only. Activities such as bake sales, item sales and contests are an excellent way to raise money. Remember, fund raisers are considered an activity and must be approved through the Office of the Student Center and Leadership Activities by submitting a Request for Approval of Activity Form. Due to UIW's tax exempt status, student organizations are only allowed to have one fund raiser per month.

Bake Sales

Bake sales for organizations are scheduled and coordinated through the Office of the Student Center & Leadership Activities and are generally limited to one organization bake sale at any given time. Check with the Director of Student Center & Leadership Activities for date availability before planning your event and submitting your approval forms. Dates are reserved on a first come, first serve basis and approval is granted only when all the necessary forms have been filed by your group.

You must still file a Request for Approval of Activity Form in order to receive approval for your bake sale. This should be completed at least one week before your bake sale. No bake sales may be conducted in the vicinity of Hortencia's Place. Foods that require heating and cooling may not be sold unless such sales meet the requirements of the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Form M).

Item Sales

The sale of items for fund raising must also be approved as a Special Event. Be sure to check with the Director of the Student Center & Leadership Activities as you plan your sale since the sale of certain items may be limited or prohibited.

Off-Campus Sales/Solicitation

Individuals or organizations may not sell or solicit donations off-campus in the name of the University unless prior authorization is given by the Dean of Student Life and the Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

Lotteries and Contest

Fund raisers which involve the sale of tickets for a chance on a prize are generally limited to contests or games of skill (e.g. guess how many beans are in the jar). Check with the Director of the Student Center & Leadership Activities for contest ideas. Be sure to include a detailed description of your contest rules and prize distribution with your organization's Request for Approval of Activity Form.
