The UIW Phase I campus provides four buildings that were originally the Air Force’s Aerospace Medical School on approximately 16 acres with over 550 parking spaces. In Phase II, an additional 7.5 acres, three additional buildings, and parking expansion will be added. The entire site is comprised of 23 acres, seven buildings with library, laboratories, research facilities, student center, auditorium, small group learning laboratories, interfaith chapel, and administrative offices. Future expansion as an Interprofessional Health Center Campus is part of the strategic plan. This vision will facilitate interprofessional education and stimulate teamwork among all students training to work in the healthcare environment of the future.
President John F. Kennedy dedicated the School of Aerospace Medicine on Nov. 21, 1963, and gave his famous “Cap over the Wall” speech, his last public speech ever delivered. Decommissioned in 2011, with a purpose driven plan in place, Brook City Base as a historic district is successfully being redeveloped into a thriving educational and economic force in San Antonio.
