Rehabilitative Science

Degree Requirement

The Rehabilitative Science degree plan is designed to meet the needs of most post-baccalaureate advanced allied health programs for physical therapy, occupational therapy, orthotics/prosthetics, chiropractic, and physician assistant studies. In some instances, the individual may need to take additional course work to meet the academic requirements for entry into a specific program.

To fulfill the requirements for this degree program, the student must complete 124 hours of undergraduate coursework, this includes the university core curriculum and the major specific requirements:

1. Unique Core Requirements

   The minimum mathematics requirement for the major is MATH 1311 Pre-calculus
   Upper Level (>3000) RELS/PHIL Course

2. Athletic Training Core Requirement - 29 hours of coursework that includes:

   ATHP 1211 Medical Terminology
   ATHP 1310 Introduction to Athletic Training
   ATHP 2305 Functional Anatomy and Muscle Testing
   ATHP 2310 Orthopedic Injuries and Athletic Conditions
   ATHP 2315 Evaluation of Injuries and Conditions to the Trunk and Lower Extremities
   ATHP 2320 Evaluation of Injuries and Conditions to the Head, Neck, and Upper Extremities
   ATHP 3310 Pathology of Disease
   ATHP 3320 Therapeutic Modalities
   ATHP 3330 Therapeutic Rehabilitation
   ATHP 4388 Internship
   

3. Biology Core Requirement - 16 hours of coursework that includes:

   BIOL 1401 Diversity of Life with Lab
   BIOL 1402 Unity of Life with Lab
   BIOL 2321/2121 Anatomy and Physiology I with Lab
   BIOL 2322/2122 Anatomy and Physiology II with Lab

4. Chemistry Core Requirement - 8 hours of coursework that includes:

   CHEM 1301 Chemical Principles I
   CHEM 1302 Chemical Principles II
   CHEM 1203L Chemical Principles Lab

5. Kinesiology Core Requirement - 6 hours of coursework that includes:

   PEHP 3355 Theory of Movement Forms: Analysis and Construction
   PEHP 4338 Fundamentals of Human Performance
   

6. Sociology and Psychology Core Requirement - 16 hours of coursework that includes:

   SOCI 3351 Social Psychology
   PSYC 3331 Abnormal Psychology
   SOCI/PSYC 3381 Statistics for Behavioral Sciences
   SOCI/PSYC 3384 Research Methods
   PSYC 4320 Health Psychology

7. Additional Science Core Requirement - At least 8 hours of coursework from the following:
