Human Subjects Institutional Review Board

Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Training

Human Subject researchers must complete the initial human subjects’ course and pass the required testing modules with an overall score of 85% to receive a training certificate. UIW has built multiple courses based on the college / school of an investigator to reduce any confusion regarding which option a researcher must choose.

The initial certification is good for three years, per UIW IRB policy. Upon expiration of the initial certification, refreshers courses are available, which upon completion are also good for a three year period. The refresher course may be repeated every three years thereafter.

Additional Training Modules

  • Clinicians are encouraged to complete the Good Clinical Practice (GCP) course.
  • Health Professionals are encouraged to complete the Health Information Privacy and Security (HIPS) course.
  • Investigators applying to the National Science Foundation (NSF) and select institutes of the National Institute for Health (NIH) are required to complete the Responsible Conduct for Research (RCR) course per the America Competes Act.
