Degree Requirements

All UIW undergraduate degrees require the completion of the Core Curriculum, requirements for the major or concentration and, in many instances, requirements for a minor and/or elective hours. 

Degree requirements for each degree level are listed below:

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Associate Degree Institutional Requirements:

Completion of a minimum of 64 semester hours, including:

• Completion of 30 hours in residency (completed at UIW)
• Completion of 24 of the last 30 hours must be completed at UIW

Attainment of a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher

Completion of all requirements for the Core, the major, minor, concentration, and/or teaching fields, including:

• Attainment of a grade no less than a C in all courses required for the major, minor, concentration, teaching fields or in English I, English II, and College Algebra, where applicable.
• Completion of Computer Literacy (test or course credit)
• Completion of Community Service hours (22 clock hours)

Bachelor’s Degree Institutional Requirements:

Completion of a minimum of 120 hours, including:

• Completion of 45 Hours in residency (completed at UIW)
• Completion of 36 Advanced hours (junior/community college courses will not satisfy this requirement)
• Completion of 36 of the last 45 hours must be completed at UIW

Attainment of a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher

Completion of all requirements for the Core, the major, minor, concentration, and/or teaching fields, including:

• Attainment of a grade no less than a C in all courses required for the major, minor, concentration, teaching fields
• Attainment of a grade no less than a C in English I, English II, and College Algebra, where applicable.
• Completion of Computer Literacy (test or course credit)
• Community Service hours (45 clock hours)

 

GRADUATE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

All UIW graduate degrees require the completion of the courses required for the major or concentration and, in many instances, requirements of a common core as well.  Degree requirements for each degree level are listed below:

Master’s Degree Institutional Requirements:

Completion of a minimum of 30 hours (most programs require 36 hours), including:

• Completion of 24 hours in residency (completed at UIW)
• GRE/GMAT/MAT documentation on file in the Registrar’s Office

Completion of all requirements for the Core, the major, minor, concentration, and/or teaching fields, including:

• Attainment of a grade no less than a C in all courses required for the major, minor, concentration, or teaching fields.
• Completion of Comprehensive Exam, Thesis Research, or Capstone
• Please Note: No more than two grades of C are allowed for continued enrollment in the graduate program. Receipt of one grade of F will be cause for automatic removal from the graduate program.

Attainment of a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher

Doctorate Degree Institutional Requirements:

Completion of a minimum of 66 hours, including:

• Completion of 54 hours in residency (completed at UIW)
• Attainment of a grade no less than a B in all courses
• Attainment of a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher

Completion of:

• Qualifying Examination
• Admission to Candidacy
• Defense of the Dissertation

Note: A grade of C may not count toward the degree. Receipt of two grades of C or one grade of F will be cause for automatic removal from the doctoral program
