Office of the Provost

Student Ethics Initiative

In alignment with the mission of the university, the Provost supports the development of the whole person and the search for truth through two unique ethics-focused initiatives. Both seek to enhance maturity and decision making using the framework of ethical analysis and decision making.

  • Ethics Club Support. The Office of the Provost actively supports the University of the Incarnate Word Ethics Club as club members develop their ethical thinking, ability to analyze ethical dilemmas, and thoughtfully articulate their ethical approaches to right decisions. As the Ethics Club travels to competitions, the Provost provides financial support to ensure UIW Ethics Club members have an opportunity to enhance their learning through competitive events.
  • Cathy and Lionel Sosa Ethics Initiative. A highly unique opportunity for students to broaden their skills in ethical analysis has been created through the Cathy and Lionel Sosa Ethics Dinners. In a hosted dinner setting fully funded through the Office of the Provost, students and a mentor dissect an ethical problem down to its essential components with no pressure to find an ethical solution. Without the overarching pressure to find “the school solution,” students are free to let their imaginations soar as they use their burgeoning experience, dialog with their peers, and the dinner mentor to learn fresh nuances in ethical analysis.
