What is the inauguration celebrating?

This event is celebrating the inauguration of the University of the Incarnate Word’s tenth president, Dr. Thomas M. Evans. It brings together students, faculty, staff and friends of UIW to take part in this tradition and participate in the beginning of a new era for the University.



Community Picnic

Who can attend the Community Picnic?

The Community Picnic is open to students and employees with current UIW ID cards.


Is there a fee to attend the Community Picnic?

The Community Picnic is free to students and employees with the presentation of a current UIW ID card. Cards must be presented to receive a food tickets.



Academic Colloquium

What is an Academic Colloquium?

The Academic Colloquium is a special event that provides insight into the UIW faculty experience. Via an interactive assembly, members of the faculty will share a platform and engage in thoughtful discussions that shed light on the missions and vocations of UIW educators.


Who can attend the Academic Colloquium?

All are invited to attend the Academic Colloquium.


What can I expect at the event?
Audience members will be seated in the Student Engagement Center Ballroom theater seating and have a direct view of the faculty, who will present from the ballroom’s center.



Inauguration Liturgy 

Who can attend the Liturgy?
Seating in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word will be very limited and many of the seats will be reserved for guests who have received a ticket. While there will be some seating remaining for our community and the public, we cannot guarantee availability to guests without a ticket.


What time will the doors open for the liturgy?

Doors will open at approximately 3 p.m.



Inauguration Ceremony and Academic Procession

Who can attend the Inauguration Ceremony?

All are invited to attend the Inauguration Ceremony.


What time will the McDermott Center doors open to the public for the Inauguration Ceremony on March 22?

Doors to the McDermott Center will open to the public at 5 p.m. on March 22 for the Inauguration Ceremony.


Will classes be cancelled for the inauguration ceremony?

Day classes are not affected. Faculty interested in attending the inauguration ceremony on Thursday evening may elect to cancel classes.


I can’t make the Inauguration Ceremony, will the event be livestreamed?

The event will be livestreamed via UIWtv. Click here to view the livestream. The video will be active 15 minutes prior to the event start.


May delegates participate?        

We will not be recognizing the delegates in the program, but they are welcomed to participate in the academic procession provided they have their own regalia.



Inauguration Reception

Who can attend the Inauguration Reception?

Guests of the inauguration are invited to attend the Inauguration Reception.


Will I have a chance to greet Dr. Evans?

While there will be an opportunity for a brief greeting, Dr. Evans’ time will be extremely limited to accommodate all the guests.

I’m a student, do Day of Service activities count toward my service hours?

Yes, service activities during the Day of Service count toward your service hours. Submit hours and activities via Cardinal Sync, as per standard protocol. Contact the Ettling Center for Civic Responsibility and Leadership with any questions by calling 210-283-6423 or visiting
