International Students

The Post Professional DPT program welcomes applications from international students that meet the program’s requirements.


  • Earned Bachelor degree (minimum of 120 credit hours)
  • A physical therapy degree from an educational program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)
  • A current U.S. physical therapy license or its equivalent
  • Familiarity with computer word processing and internet access with web browser and e-mail capability
  • At least one year of practice as a licensed physical therapist

Graduates who have not completed their physical therapy education in the United States must:

  • Submit proof of a current U.S. physical therapy license in good standing.
  • Participants must have graduated at least one year prior to enrollment and have at least one year of full-time experience as a licensed physical therapist.
  • Meet the minimum requirements of a professional degree in physical therapy at the level of Bachelor of Science or beyond. This degree must be equivalent to a United States Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy.
  • Submit, at the time of application, the following items of documentation:
    1. Certified transcripts bearing seals and original signatures must be sent directly to the UIW Doctor of Physical Therapy program from institutions of higher education in other countries. Photocopies are not acceptable.
    2. An official transcript evaluation for all international studies. The evaluation must be completed by a qualified credentialing agency. Please refer to the Foreign Credentialing Commission in Physical Therapy (http://www.fccpt.org). For more information about the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE), refer to the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (http://www.fsbpt.org). Results of the credentials evaluation and NPTE should be sent directly to the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions Admission Office. International students whose first language is not English must report a TOEFL score of at least one of the scores listed below:

  • 83 on the internet-based test (iBT)
  • 220 on the computer-based test (CBT)
  • 557-560 on the paper-based test (PBT)


Applicants should enter the University of the Incarnate Word TOEFL code number of 6303 on their answer sheets when they sit for the examination and/or when completing a TOEFL Score Report Request Form. To arrange to take the TOEFL, please visit the following website http://www.web1.toefl.org.
