The Philosophy Department supports the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the UIW Ethics Club. In recent years this support has focused on preparing teams of UIW students from across the disciplines to compete in the Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl (IEB). The Texas Regional IEB takes place annually in November, when approximately twenty colleges and universities from Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas compete for a coveted invitation to the National Championship IEB in Cincinnati, which takes place in March. Competing teams are expected to research complex cases in applied ethics and to present before a panel of judges the most compelling argument or analysis of each case. In 2010 the UIW team captured 1st place in the Texas Regional IEB and went on to place 12th in the National Championship. For further information check the official IEB website here, or contact Dr. Paul Lewis, Chair of the Philosophy Department at lewis@uiwtx.edu.
