Dr. G. Scott Weston joins the Feik School of Pharmacy as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and a registered pharmacist. Dr. Weston received his B.S. in Pharmacy (1990) and Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry (1995) from the University Of Mississippi School Of Pharmacy and served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Biological Chemistry at the Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago (1996-1998). Dr. Weston’s postdoctoral research involved the structure-based discovery of novel beta-lactamase inhibitors for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant infections and he is the co-inventor on 4 U.S. patents.
Dr. Weston spent several years in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry working on the application of computational chemistry, computational biology, and structural biology to the discovery and development of new therapeutic agents for antimicrobial, anticancer, and cardiovascular drug targets. Prior to joining the Feik School of Pharmacy, Dr. Weston was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the South University School of Pharmacy in Savannah, Georgia (2003 – 2006).
Dr. Weston is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American Chemical Society, the Kappa Psi pharmaceutical fraternity, and the Rho Chi Pharmaceutical Honor Society. He is an author/co-author of numerous scientific manuscripts in peer reviewed scientific journals and serves as a reviewer for various scientific journals. Dr. Weston’s current research projects focus on the discovery and development of novel therapeutic agents for the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases and on the development of new computational tools for drug discovery.
