DAVID TRANG
Vice-Chair and Associate Professor, Pharmacy Practice

Dr. Trang is Vice-Chair and an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. He graduated with a B.S. in Biology from Albright College in 1996, B.S. in Pharmacy from Temple University in 1999, Pharm.D. from Shenandoah University in 2008, and M.B.A. from University of the Incarnate Word in 2009. He is a member of the Rho Chi pharmacy honor society, Delta Mu Delta business honor society, and Beta Beta Beta biology honor society. He completed a fellowship in the AACP Academic Leadership Fellowship Program.
In 2001, Dr. Trang was the first and only Assistant Pharmacy Manager to be promoted to Pharmacy District Manager in the history of Walmart and managed the #1 district in the company with over $100 million in sales annually. His team comprised of 75 pharmacists and 150 support personnel. In 2003, Dr. Trang was then promoted to be Manager of Professional Recruiting and College Relations for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. at the home office in Bentonville, AR and was responsible for overseeing pharmacist recruitment and staffing at more than 3600 Wal-Mart and Sam's Club locations. He also managed the selection and training program for 1200 pharmacy interns representative of every pharmacy school in the U.S. His $20 million proposal for the new organizational structure of the professional recruiting department was accepted and implemented with a team of 30 professionals. In 2005, he was promoted to Director of professional Recruiting and College Relations with the additional responsibility of Optometry.
Since 2004, Dr. Trang has served on the Editorial Advisory Board of Pharmacy Times and created the Annual AACP/Walmart Scholarship Program with Dr. Lucinda Maine. This program has awarded more than 300 scholarships and $300,000 to pharmacy students interested in pursuing a career in academia. Dr. Trang is a member of several professional organizations including the National Academies of Practice (NAP), American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), and Kappa Psi (KY).
Dr. Trang’s teaching and research interests include pharmacoeconomics, pharmacist job market, management, and leadership. He is a nationally recognized expert on careers in pharmacy and has been published several times. He was appointed by the Provost to serve on the university Futuring Committee which assists the university in planning for the next 20 years. He serves on the pharmacy school’s Board of Advisors and coordinates the Pharmacy Career Fair and Interview Days. Dr. Trang also practices part-time at Brooke Army Medical Center. He has 10 pharmacists in his family who practice in many diverse areas of pharmacy including industry, government, independent, community, hospital, research, and academia.
