Dear Prospective Professional Student:
Thank you for considering the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program at Feik School of Pharmacy at the University of the Incarnate Word.
The following packet of information is for students desiring entry for the 2008 academic year. Applications will be accepted from September 15, 2007 through January 31, 2008. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Please read all documents and instructions carefully.
Minimum eligibility is 2.5 overall GPA from all colleges and universities attended and 2.5 GPA in all science/math prerequisite courses. Although the 2.5 GPA is the minimum required for application, it is unlikely that this GPA will be competitive. You must complete all prerequisite courses prior to entry into the professional program. All math and science pre-requisite courses must be taken since January, 2002, unless otherwise approved. Any course older than ten years, with the exception of general core requirements (i.e., English composition, history, philosophy, etc.), will not be utilized to calculate GPA.
The School will notify you of the status of your application and any outcome of your application using your stated home address, e-mail address, and/or telephone number to schedule an interview as necessary. Please ensure that all submitted contact information stays current.
From the applicant pool, selected candidates will be invited for a required on-campus personal interview, critical thinking skills assessment, and spontaneous writing sample. You will be responsible for your own transportation and accommodations.
After the interview process, the Admissions Committee of the School of Pharmacy will review the candidates and make recommendations to the Dean. You will be notified of an admissions decision by April 1. If accepted, you will have until May 1 to tender a $500 nonrefundable deposit to hold your place in the class, $400 of which will be applied towards tuition. Lastly, those candidates will be required to undergo and pay for a criminal background check and drug screening. A pharmacist-signed affidavit of completed 80 hours of pharmacy experience on the appropriate University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy form is also required for admission. This must be completed prior to entry into the program in the Fall.
Our selection process offers each candidate a fair opportunity to present themselves. We wish you the best of luck in your academic endeavors. Please do not hesitate to contact this office if you have questions about the admissions process.
Sincerely,
Carmita A. Coleman, Pharm.D.
Assistant Dean for Student Affairs
