Dr Barnes has joined the faculty of the Feik School of Pharmacy as an Assistant Professor in Pharmacy Practice. Dr Barnes earned a certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in 1984 and received a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from The University of Texas at Austin in 1985.
He soon began working as an EMT, and completed his paramedic (EMT-P) training while employed by the City of Austin (Texas). He was recruited to join the faculty of Austin Community College as an instructor in the Emergency Medical Services Professions program. He then returned to UT College of Pharmacy and received a Pharm.D. in 2005. He remained with UT to complete a pharmacy specialty residency in internal medicine pharmacotherapy.
Dr Barnes has over ten years of teaching experience at the community college and professional level; he still maintains his paramedic license as well as teaching ACLS and PALS courses through American Heart Association® affiliates.
His teaching will focus on adult medicine with particular emphasis on cardiovascular and emergency medicine.
