AMANDA SHARPE

Dr. Amanda Sharpe joined the faculty at the Feik School of Pharmacy in 2011 as an Assistant Professor in the Pharmaceutical Sciences department. She joined us from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where she previously held a Research Assistant Professor position in Physiology.
Dr. Sharpe graduated from Ohio Northern University with a B.S. in pharmacy and received her Ph.D. in pharmacology from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in North Carolina for her work on the neurobehavioral analysis of alcohol and nicotine self-administration. Dr. Sharpe completed post-doctoral fellowships in behavioral neuroscience at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. During that time her research focused on neuropeptidergic circuitry regulating food and alcohol consumption as well as the interactions between stress and alcohol-related behaviors. This work was supported by an individual post-doctoral National Research Service Award from NIH.
Dr. Sharpe was awarded a National Scientist Development Grant from the American Heart Association in 2010 for her work examining the role of the paraventricular hypothalamus in feeding and metabolic drive. She has active research collaborations with faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the University of Texas at San Antonio examining neurocircuitry regulating drug abuse, and food intake and metabolic drive in obesity.
Dr. Sharpe is a member of the American Physiological Society and the Society for Neuroscience.
