  • Rosenberg School of Optometry Gallery

    The purpose of the Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO) Gallery is to showcase a diverse range of artwork that will enrich the educational experience of the optometry students, and provide a stimulating visual experience for the University of the Incarnate Word and surrounding community.  The Rosenberg School of Optometry Gallery is located at 9725 Datapoint, San Antonio, TX  78229.  Examples of artist groups may be art classes of any level including schools, a critique group, and artist organization or guild.

  • General Information
    • Artwork can be from a group or an individual.
    • Work must be two-dimensional or “hang”-able on a wall.
    • Work must be framed or have some other kind of finished edge.
    • Work must be ready to hang with a device (preferably a wire) attached to the back of the piece.
    • The Rosenberg School of Optometry Gallery holds approximately 6-10 pieces per show depending upon the size of the individual pieces (roughly 20 linear feet).
    • Exhibitions last approximately 4-8 weeks depending on the exhibition calendar.
    • The Rosenberg School of Optometry Gallery exhibition is open when the facility is open.
  • Selection Process

    Artwork will be selected according to its appropriateness for the space and the quality of the work within the respective medium.  Selection is at the complete discretion of the Director of Optometric & Clinical Library Services (Director).  Selection also greatly depends upon the artist’s ability to fulfill the general requirements and provide the items listed below in the required time period.

  • Sales
    Director will serve as the liaison between the buyer and the artist.  There will be a 30% commission provided to the UIW-RSO library on all sales.  Art work will remain on display until the end of the exhibit.
 
  • Application Due: 1/20/18

    To apply, submit the following by e-mail to dmrios1@uiwtx.edu  or mail to Dede Rios, Rosenberg School of Optometry, University of the Incarnate Word, 9725 Datapoint Dr., San Antonio, TX  78229.

    • Resume, with contact information
    • Exhibition History
    • Images of work to be considered for display
    • Availability of the work
  • Artist (s) Responsibilities
    • A complete checklist of objects including artist name, title of the work, dimensions, media, value
    • A title for the exhibition
    • A paragraph explaining the concept of the exhibition and a biography paragraph about the artist or artist group
    • At least one high resolution image (300dpi+) of a piece in the exhibition to be used for publicity purposes
    • Round-trip transportation for the artwork
    • Artist(s) must participate in at least 1 public program at the Rosenberg School of Optometry during the course of the exhibition.

    • Artist(s) may choose to have a public reception during the course of the exhibition.  The division of costs will be negotiated with the Director of Optometric & Clinical Library Services.  The event will be open to the public and UIW faculty, staff & students.

    • Artist(s) must adhere to the timeline established by the Director of Optometric & Clinical Library Services. 

  • UIWRSO Responsibilities
    • Exhibition space
    • Didactic panel for exhibition information
    • Staff time for the exhibition installation assistance
    • Exhibition publicity on the Rosenberg School of Optometry website, on a digital screen in facility foyer, and in the University of the Incarnate Word’s email newsletter publication
    • Business Office assistance for sales
