Optometry School Financial Aid
Information for students applying for financial aid at UIWRSO will be emailed to new incoming students in the beginning of each year. Information will be electronically distributed to currently-enrolled students during the same time frame. It is important to note that students apply for financial aid for the entire academic year. The application information consists of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the UIW Supplemental Forms (Student Information, Texas Residency, and Aid Authorization), and instructions and updates regarding financial aid for the upcoming academic year. All applications and forms must be properly completed and submitted before financial aid is awarded.
Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Obtain a FSA ID. The FSA ID will allow you to sign your FAFSA electronically and electronically sign your Master Promissory Note (MPN) for Federal Student Loans. For more information on obtaining a FSA ID please see: https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm
Gather your documents. For the 2018-2019, FAFSA will use your 2016 tax information (income tax and W-2 forms). You may use the IRS Data Retrieval Transfer (DRT) process to transfer tax data to your FAFSA.
- Comply with all designated application deadlines.
After you submit the FAFSA you will receive an electronic Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR is a summary of the information provided by you on the FAFSA. Please review all the information provided for accuracy and note any instructions in the comment area.
The main UIW Office of Financial Assistance will receive your information electronically. There may be times when the information you provided on the FAFSA needs to be verified, so you may be asked to submit actual tax returns or other documents. This process is called verification.
Please follow up with the UIWRSO Director of Admissions & Student Services to make sure that all of the information to determine your financial aid eligibility and processing is received.
You will receive your award offer that lists each financial aid program awarded. You have the right to accept all or part of the financial aid package. Award letters are sent to the student’s permanent address.
The UIW FAFSA school code is 003578. If you have specific questions about completing the FAFSA, you may contact the main Office of Financial aid at 1-800-433-3243 or the UIWRSO Director of Admissions & Student Services at (210) 883-1190.
