Charles A. Garcia, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Charles A. Garcia graduated from the University of Houston, College of Optometry in 1977 and practiced for 15 years in Universal City, outside of San Antonio, Texas.
In 1993, He accepted a faculty appointment in the Department of ophthalmology, University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA). There he was chief of the contact lens service and provided contact lens training for ophthalmology residence for several years. In 1995, He was appointed staff doctor of the newly created Texas Diabetes Institute (TDI) of the University Health System of San Antonio located at the former historical Robert B. Green hospital. He managed diabetic non-surgical eye disease at this facility until the new facility opened in 1999. At the new location He worked with all subspecialties of ophthalmology.
Dr. Garcia became Therapeutic Licensed in 1994; Optometric Glaucoma Specialist licensed in 2000; became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 2000. He completed the courses, sponsored by Northeastern State University, College of Optometry, Laser Therapy of the Anterior Segment July, 2010; Surgical Procedures for the Optometric Physician December, 2010.
Dr. Garcia practiced at the diabetic eye clinic until his retirement from the UTHSCSA in May 2011. Professional interests are endocrinology, glaucoma and retina. Personal interests are traveling, foreign language, and music.
