Nursing FAQ
What is the difference between an R.N. program and a BSN program?
- R.N. is a license to practice as a nurse, not an educational level.
- The University of the Incarnate Word offers a baccalaureate degree (BSN) that qualifies you to take the licensing exam to become an R.N. Any graduate from an accredited nursing program may take this exam.
- A BSN shows a basic level of the four-year liberal arts education and provides a basis for employment in hospitals and community clinics.
What are the entrance requirements?
- Students must have completed all of the pre-requisites listed on the General Education (Core) Requirements with a minimum grade of C.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all completed college coursework.
What are the application deadlines?
- Applications and transcripts are due by March 1 for Fall (August) and October 1 for Spring (January) admission.
What will nursing school cost?
- The Business Office web page maintains Tuition and Fee information for the university.
- Current fees, including parking, are approximately $1000 per semester and are subject to change.
- Books cost approximately $500 per semester.
What kind of financial aid is available?
- Application for scholarships or financial aid may be made through the Financial Aid office.
- The first step in being considered for financial aid is to complete the FASFA form that can be found on-line at www.fasfa.org. You should complete that application when applying for admission.
- Other scholarship and financial aid may be available from external agencies. Local hospitals may offer tuition assistance to employees and scholarships to students who work for the agency after graduation.
Does Incarnate Word have a waiting list?
- No. Students are chosen from applications received each semester. Students not accepted for admission must re-apply for subsequent semester consideration.
