School of Nursing: About the School
Welcome
The Nursing Program at UIW offers a generic baccalaureate nursing program (BSN) for students wishing to become registered nurses, an accelerated baccalaureate program (RN-BSN) for registered nurses who wish to earn a BSN, and a Masters program (MSN) for nurses who wish to advance their level of practice.
The generic BSN program prepares graduates to take the licensure examination to become a Registered Nurse. The BSN program is planned as a five-semester program with 130 credits of study. Our program is approved by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas and fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The pass rate of our graduates on the licensure examination is consistently above the pass rate for the state.
The RN-BSN Program is designed to provide the practicing registered nurse who has earned the diploma or Associate Degree with additional knowledge and skills of the BSN. Courses are offered in the evening in eight-week terms that permit the student to continue working while attending classes.
The MSN program is designed for students to develop clinical leadership skills that focus on the care of aggregates. This flexible program allows the student opportunities to work with groups of adults or children who have common health care need for illness management or health promotion in both acute care and community settings.
The nursing program also offers a certificate program in Parish Nursing and significant opportunity for service learning through a collaborative Health Ministry with St. Philip of Jesus Parish.
