Advent Reflection Series
Advent Reflection Series: "Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths." Mission and Ministry invites you to 20 minute reflections on the meaning of Advent each Monday in December at 5 p.m. in the Heritage Room, AD 155. Pause and reflect with us Dec. 16 and 23 on traditions of the season and prepare for a most blessed Christmas.
University Mission & Ministry is once again sponsoring an Angel Tree for our community members who are in need of assistance this Christmas. We invite you to consider sponsoring a child or family of children for this holiday season. If it is a large family you may want to gather a group of people to sponsor the family. The Angel Tree is located in the foyer leading to Our Lady’s Chapel in the Administration Building. It will be displayed through Dec. 18. Please bring items in a holiday bag with the original Angel tag to Mission & Ministry (AD 146 or 147) any time before Wednesday, Dec. 19. Distribution of the items will be Dec. 20 and 21. UIW Men’s Basketball live on CSN
Southland Conference men’s basketball returns to Comcast SportsNet Houston (CSN). The Cardinals’ game against Sam Houston State at home will air live on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. Visit http://www.csnhouston.com/channel-finder for compete channel listings. CSN is the television home for the most games and the most comprehensive coverage of the Houston Astros, Rockets, and Dynamo, and this season will produce and air live a total of five Southland Conference men’s basketball games.

Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing students, faculty and administrators pose with gifts collected for the over 200 children who live at Haven for Hope. On Thursday, Dec. 12, Sigma Theta Tau International Delta Alpha at Large Chapter and the Student Nurses Association (SNA) held their third annual party for the children at Haven for Hope. On Dec. 13, the SNA from UIW will hold their first annual party for Prospect Courtyard (Center of HOPE) next to Haven for Hope; 600-700 people sleep there each night.

Administration Building Elevator Out of Service Notice
The Administration Building elevator will be out of service now until Dec. 23 for a motor replacement repair. It is expected to be finished on Dec. 20 or Dec. 23. It will not be operational for any reason. Please make necessary arrangements.
Water Shut-off Notice
The water will be shut off Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 from 8 a.m.– 4 p.m. for arepair. The buildings affected include: Administration;Dubuis; Joyce; andGeneralate.

Appeal for the Faculty Refresh Laptops for the VITA Program
The Volunteers in Tax Assistance (VITA) Program has been relocated to JB 126 and has need for approximately 14 used laptops. If you have recently (or not so recently) participated in the faculty laptop refresh program, your donation would be greatly appreciated. The VITA Program provides free income tax preparation for the low income and elderly of our community. Our volunteers logged approximately 1900 community service hours last year. The VITA Program assisted nearly 350 taxpayers. Our clients are our students, staff, and the community. A laptop in any condition is welcome. Thank you for your consideration.
