School of Mathematics, Science & Engineering Summer Camps
The School of Mathematics, Science and Engineering's annual Science Summer Camp for top performing students, open to upcoming high school juniors and seniors, will be held Sat., July 8-Wed., July 12 for girls only and Sat., July 15-Wed., July19 for co-ed. A schedule will be provided to students who are accepted for camp attendance. Schedules will vary per day of the camp. Students will conduct hands-on lab exercises, get an inside look at labs, participate in team activities, meet UIW professors and researchers and get insight to survive and succeed in college. Each camp is open to the top 20 applicants from each group. The cost of the camp is $250 with $125 being due at the time of application. Students can apply at The deadline for applications is June 21. A $500 college scholarship is available to students who are accepted and choose to attend UIW during their freshman year of college. The meeting was to explore site options for ADCaP, as well as incorporating UIW Prep at Incarnate Word Academy in Brownsville, TX. Incarnate Word Academy is a mission of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacraments, a cousin congregation of the CCVI’s.

Sembradores 2013
Representatives of Sembradores of San Antonio share a photo with Sr. Kathleen Coughlin (left), CCVI, vice president of institutional advancement, and Dr. Louis Agnese (center), UIW president, on the UIW campus on Thursday, May 9. The representatives presented Agnese with a check for scholarships. Sembradores of San Antonio is a group of men and women dedicated to raising funds annually to help deserving students achieve a higher education. The funds raised by the organization go to educational endowments which provide scholarships for students attending one of seven local colleges and universities in the San Antonio metropolitan area.

Construction Update
From May 13 - Aug. 10, the roadway parallel to Hildebrand between Bonilla Science Hall and the Nursing Building, will be closed for construction. Traffic will flow reverse up the “Cat Walk” driveway (between Joyce and the Generalate) for those entering Burr Rd. and needing to access the “back side” of campus. To access the front of campus from the back, traffic will cross the bridge and turn right, exit the construction gate and turn left onto Hildebrand (East Bound) and re-enter campus at the gate in front of the Coates Theatre. To exit to Broadway, exit the construction gate, turn left (east bound) on Hildebrand to Broadway.

Emergency Evacuation Coordinators Needed
This summer the Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management office will begin conducting fire drills for all UIW buildings. As part of this program, we will be asking for volunteer Emergency Evacuation Coordinators (EEC). The job of the EEC is to help facilitate the safe and orderly evacuation of their building by informing and directing individuals to the nearest accessible exit.EEC’s need to be individuals that are present in their buildings and are familiar with the building and staff within their departments. Judges Needed for Corporate Cup T-shirt Competition
Judges are needed for the Corporate Cup on Saturday, June 1, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at Gayle & Tom Benson Stadium. UIW Athletics is sponsoring the Corporate Cup T-shirt Competition, where companies from around the city will enter their t-shirt design in hopes of winning the grand prize: tailgate and football tickets to a UIW game this season. Register for 2013 UIW Cardinal Elite Basketball Camp
Kids ages 13 to 17 are invited to attend the 2013 UIW Elite Basketball Camp Monday, June 3-Tuesday, June 4, 6-8 p.m. Registration cost is $40. The camp will help participants to get mentally and physically ready for high school, AAU, college and pro basketball. Register for 2013 UIW Cardinal Basketball Camp
Kids ages six to 16 are invited to attend the 2013 UIW Cardinal Basketball Camp to improve skills through individual instruction, drills, lectures and games. The two-week camp will take place 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday, June 24-Thursday, June 27, and 9 a.m.-noon on Friday, June 28. The second week of camp will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday, July 1-Friday, July 6 (please note: there will be no camp scheduled for Wednesday, July 4). Cost to attend is $175 the first week all-day or $150 half-day; and $165 the second week all-day or $140 half-day. UIW faculty and staff receive 20 percent off cost. The Dreeben School of Education held its year end celebration honoring faculty accomplishments at Tomatillo’s Mexican restaurant on Friday, May 3. The faculty also honored Sr. Dorothy Ettling, CCVI, professor of teacher education, (pictured fifth from left) for her many years of service to the school. Ettling will be leaving the Dreeben School of Education to join the Center for Civic Leadership.
