Mission

Summer Mass Cancelations
Noon Mass will be canceled through July 12 because Fr. Tom will be away from campus. Normal noon Mass schedule will resume July 13.

Our Lady’s Chapel Services
All are welcome.

  • Noon Mass, Monday – Thursday. Less than 30 minutes
  • Spanish Mass at noon on Fridays
  • Sunday Mass at 10:30 a.m.
  • Liturgy of the Hours evening prayer at 5 p.m. every Wednesday

Events

HEBSBA & AHCC Mixer
The H-E-B School of Business & Administration will host a free mixer in partnership with Alamo Heights Chamber of Commerce. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres will be available. UIW Missions Family Night
Join Alumni Relations for family dollar night starting at 7 p.m. July 21 at Wolff Stadium. Bring your family and friends out to enjoy this great family baseball game with other UIW alumni, faculty, staff and friends. Admission cost $7, and everything is $1 that night. 2nd Annual Luau & Margarita Tasting
Alumni Relations will host this fun mixer to celebrate the summer in style... with a twist... and some leis, tiki torches and giveaways too. Enjoy appetizers and a complimentary margarita sponsored by the Holiday Inn Airport Hotel. The margarita tasting will allow each attendee to sample three flavors of margaritas and receive one margarita of their favorite flavor. Mozart Festival Texas
The Mozart Festival Texas is a series of four concerts, held on successive Saturday evenings at Our Lady's Chapel, featuring the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Programs include orchestral, operatic and chamber music repertoire. Performers for Mozart Festival will include members of the UIW music faculty and other outstanding professional musicians from throughout South Texas. Concerts begin at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 23, July 30, Aug. 6 and Aug. 13. Admission costs $20. For more information, contact Roland Sul at (210) 829-3855 or sul@uiwtx.edu.

UIW Welcome Week Concert
Join your friends for this great Welcome Week event featuring The Spazmatics. The Spazmatics are one of the hottest bands in Texas and are sure to drop the beat to move your feet, as you sing and dance the night away! Make sure you block the evening of Thursday, Aug. 25 on your calendar starting at 7 p.m. to join your friends at this amazing event. UIW students, staff and faculty members receive one complimentary ticket (with a valid UIW ID) and may purchase additional tickets at www.uiw.edu/concert. Rock N' Red Birds Marathon Team
Join the Rock N' Red Birds as they walk, jog and run the San Antonio Rock N' Roll Marathon & Half Marathon. Joining the Rock N' Red Birds team gets you a $10 discount on registration and the camaraderie that comes with accomplishing a large health goal. Awards Banquet Invitation
The Alamo Asian American Chamber of Commerce invites you to celebrate its 8th annual Awards Banquet from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel, 420 West Market St. Dr. Louis Agnese will be honored as the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Cloud File Storage Availability
Information Technology introduces Stoneware, a web-based tool that allows you to access UIW’s private cloud. It’s like taking a UIW desktop environment wherever you go. Services include file storage space (so you don’t have to keep up with that flash drive), and single sign-on to various resources such as Cardinal Mail, library databases, Banner INB and Blackboard. You can access Microsoft Office 2010 applications even if the computer you are working on does not have Office installed. Take Stoneware for a test drive by visiting: https://cardinal.uiwtx.edu and logging in with your UIW username/password (same information you use to log into your work computer or access Cardinal Mail). Several support documents linked below have been created to assist you. If you have additional questions, call the Help Desk at Ext. 2721.

Event Submission Policy Changes
In order to better assist persons with special needs seeking to attend a UIW event, UIW has created an "ADA/Section 504 Information" link on the UIW home page, http://www.uiw.edu/. This links to the ADA/Section 504 site that opens to the page "Request for Accommodations" http://www.uiw.edu/ada/index.html. The web page "Request for Accommodations" has an electronic form that allows the general public and students to request various types of accommodations and includes a “comments” section. The form provides for a notice period of at least five university working days to request accommodations. If a request is made less than five days prior to the event, the form may still be submitted and the university will make reasonable efforts to provide accommodations.

This new procedure is consistent with the events promotion policy recently sent out by the Office of Public Relations requiring that all event promotion notifications be submitted to the PR Office via the online form, http://uiw.edu/pr/preventform.html, at least five (5) university working days prior to the date of the event.

Blackboard & Office 2010 Summer Training Schedule
The UIW department of Instructional Technology is offering faculty and staff the opportunity to update their Blackboard and Office 2010 skills. All classes will be held in Room G16 of the Mabee Library. Space is limited, so register soon. Email registration requests to Terry Peak at tpeak@uiwtx.edu.

Blackboard Collaborate - Introductory Course
9-10 a.m. Aug. 8, 10, 15, 16
Blackboard Collaborate is a virtual classroom solution with audio, video, application sharing and content display capabilities. Instructors may capture and archive lectures for future playback through Blackboard. The introductory course provides an overview of the basic features and benefits.

Blackboard Collaborate - Advanced Course
1-2 p.m. Aug. 8, 10, 15, 16
The advanced course will be taught online. Participants will plan, design and present a session. Attendees will also critique the session of their colleagues. 

Blackboard Grade Center
9-10 a.m. Aug. 11, 18 
1-2 p.m. Aug. 9
The Grade Center can record data, monitor student progress and communicate information to students. It is also a valuable tool to assist with making informed decisions to take action to promote student progress. 

Blackboard Assessment and Content Management
9-10 a.m. Aug. 9
1-2 p.m. Aug. 18
Content Areas contain a variety of learning materials such as tests, assignments and other downloadable content that instructors use to present information relevant to their courses.

Summer 2011 Faculty Training Series
The UIW Department of Instructional Technology is offering faculty and staff the opportunity to learn from their colleagues. Faculty members will present one- and two-hour classes highlighting how they integrate technology into their courses. All classes will be held in Room G16 of the Mabee Library.   • Aug. 10, 10-11 a.m. – Hybrid Learning: Lessons Learned and Best Practices – Dr. Pat Lonchar and Dr. Mary Beth Swofford share their experiences, successes and best practices with instructors who want to teach using hybrid learning tools.    
  • Aug. 17, 1-2 p.m. – Social Networking as a Teaching Tool – Dr. Marcos Oliveira explains how he incorporates text messaging and Facebook into teaching and learning. He will relate his knowledge of pharmacy students’ perceptions on different social media practices.
  • Aug. 19, 9-11 a.m. – Microsoft Photo Story 4 – Dr. Annette Craven and Dr. Esmeralda De Los Santos will demonstrate the use of Microsoft Photo Story to integrate photos, music and voice recording into a media file documentary of fact-finding trips, which are then used in the classroom to teach students about other cultures.

UIW in the Lone Star Nights Celebration
If your summer plans take you to Six Flags Fiesta Texas, be sure to stay for the evening’s all new Lone Star Nights Celebration. The presentation includes enhanced video projection, new lasers, audio, and special effects. UIW is one of the colleges/universities featured in the new spectacular. The show runs nightly through Aug. 14.

Recycling Containers
Please help get the word out if you have any contact with the many visitors on campus this summer: The blue containers are for paper, cans and bottles only. Put all garbage in other containers.

SACHS Casino Night
The St. Anthony Alumni Association 3rd annual Casino Night and Texas Hold’em Tournament will be held July 8 at the SACHS gymnasium.Doors open at 6 p.m., and games will be from 7-10 p.m. Tickets cost $50 per person for Casino Night and there is a $50 buy-in for the Hold’em Tournament (seating is limited). Gaming includes: black jack, poker, roulette, slots and other table games. All money raised will be allocated to the Alumni Scholarship Fund. The Casino Night grand prize is a $1,000 gift card, and the grand prize for the Hold’em tournament is a $500 gift card. SACHS Rummage Sale
The St. Anthony Catholic High School Class of 2013 will be hosting a Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 in the SACHS gym, 3200 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78212. Prepaid spaces for sales will be reserved beginning at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 18. The cost of a space inside the gym is $25, and reservations for spaces are limited. Christmas in July Arts & Craft Mercado
The Village at Incarnate Word will host the third annual Christmas in July Arts & Craft Mercado from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Friday, July 15 in the CHRISTUS Heritage Hall. Join us for a fun day of shopping, fellowship and entertainment. More than 30 artisans will be on hand to show and sell their handcrafted items such as silver jewelry, paintings, photography, hand-woven goods as well as fashion jewelry, purses, accessories and much more. St. Anthony Catholic School Summer Program
A summer enrichment program with each different themed week packed with recreation, arts and crafts, drama, cooking, science projects, water play and field trips.
