Celebration at the Grotto
There will be a celebration at our Lourdes Grotto at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8, the feast day of the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the United States, to mark the opening of the 150th Year of Our Lady of Lourdes. All are invited to attend.
UIW Campus Ministry Angel Tree
Campus Ministry is again sponsoring an Angel Tree for community members who are in need of assistance this Christmas. We invite you to consider sponsoring a child or family this holiday season. Groups are invited to sponsor large families. The Angel Tree is in the foyer leading to Our Lady’s Chapel in the Administration Building and will be displayed through Dec. 17. Bring items in a holiday bag with the original tag to Campus Ministry in the Chapel Building any time through Dec. 19. Distribution of items will be Dec. 20-21. Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement
UIW will hold two graduation ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 8 to accommodate the graduating class. The H-E-B School of Business and Administration and the School of Mathematics, Science and Engineering will celebrate a Baccalaureate Mass at 9 a.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium and an 11 a.m. commencement ceremony in the Convocation Center. The College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, the School of Education, the School of Interactive Media and Design and the School of Nursing and Health Professions will celebrate a Baccalaureate Mass at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The graduation ceremony will follow at 5 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
KUIW Community Christmas Dinner
KUIW will hold the 2nd annual KUIW Community Christmas Dinner in the Rosenberg Skyroom on Dec. 10. This event provides a home-style Christmas dinner for more than 300 foster youth and families serviced by the PAL Youth Center of Baptist Child and Family Services. Volunteer opportunities are available anytime from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. and can be coordinated by contacting KUIW Communications Director Ana Flores at kuiw@uiwtx.edu or (210) 805-5849.

Yesterday's sales of scarves, ties and shawls designed by UIW faculty and students will benefit the Red Dress Fashion and Health Fair, which will be Feb. 12.

Christmas Payroll Schedule
Due to the Christmas holiday schedule, all faculty, staff, administrators and students will be paid Thursday, Dec. 20.Because of the accelerated pay date, all time sheets must be in the Payroll Office on or before 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14. Checks not picked up at the Payroll Office by noon Friday, Dec. 21 will be mailed. Be sure the mailing address on your check is your current mailing address. If it is not, contact Human Resources to correct it.

Race for the Cure
Want a beautiful doll house to give for Christmas? Just $1 will enter you in the Feik School of Pharmacy raffle. The doll house (pictured above) retails for more than $800 and is fully furnished. It was built by a pharmacy student in memory of her aunt who passed away from breast cancer. All proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The house is displayed at the Feik School of Pharmacy. The drawing will be held Dec. 17. If you’re interested, contact Kristen Dicianna at (210) 883-1063 or dicianna@uiwtx.edu.

Print Shop Hours
Starting Monday, Dec. 10, the Print Shop hours of operation will change to 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Print Shop will resume regular hours starting Jan. 14.

2008 Synchronized Swimming Calendars
The Synchronized Swimming Team is selling its 2008 calendar for only $5 to students and faculty and $7 to the public. These calendars make great holiday gifts. Competition Winner
Dr. James Wiznerowicz, Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Music coordinator of musicianship studies, announced that UIW music professor Dr. Ken Metz was the winner of the Experiencing Villa-Lobos Percussion Composition Competition. Metz’ composition Musica visto que Villa-Lobos will be premiered on Friday, March 28 at the VCU School of Arts in Richmond, Virginia.
Presentations
Faculty members from the Department of Human Performance attended the annual meeting of the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and participated in the following activities.
- Bill Carleton, Brent Powell and Tim Henrich presented “Overcoming Teacher Burnout” at the meeting Nov. 29.
- Tim Henrich and Bill Carleton helped present “Improvements in Competitive Swimming Performance Following a Season of High Volume Training.” It was also published in the research section of the meeting’s December program.
- Tim Henrich helped present “Potential Predictors of Adequate Knowledge of First Aid Principles among Texas High School Coaches” at the meeting. It was also published in the research section of the meeting’s December program.

Beetle Raffle Canceled
Despite their best efforts, Campus Ministry was unable to meet the fundraising goal with the car raffle scheduled for Nov. 30. Calls are being made to all ticket holders and a full refund is being offered.
The students are still planning their pilgrimage to World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney, Australia. Donations for the trip are being accepted, and there will be more fundraising events during the spring semester. Please call Campus Ministry at 829-2736 if you have questions or to confirm your information if you are a ticket holder. Many thanks to all who supported us in this fundraising effort.
