Events
The Clean House
The Theatre Arts Department presents the comedy The Clean House by Sarah Ruhl. The play won the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for drama. All performances will be in the Cheever Theatre at UIW. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $8 for non-UIW students and $6 per ticket for groups. Light the Way
The university’s 22nd annual Light the Way ceremony will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday Nov. 17 at the Convocation Center. Don't miss the fun with performances by the choirs of the Brainpower schools and the St. Anthony High School jazz band. The lights will remain on until Jan. 6.
Fashion Show
The UIW Fashion Design and Merchandising Department will hold a special fashion show and reception honoring fashion designer Mary Anne Sinclair on Monday, Nov. 19 in Marian Hall Ballroom. The show will begin at 5:30 p.m. showcasing Sinclair’s designs followed by a reception in the Joyce Building. Sinclair’s designs also will be on display in the Lila Bath Gallery.
Football Uniforms Unveiled
The uniforms will be unveiled at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Coates Theatre. The unveiling will come as part of the annual presidential address by Dr. Agnese during the Alumni & Parents Weekend and it will be the first time the official UIW football uniforms will be seen in public.

UIW honored veterans during a Veterans Day ceremony on Dubuis Lawn on Monday.

UIW sponsored the Sober Roads Awareness Rally on Thursday to help promote awareness against drug and alcohol use.
Volunteers Needed for President’s Spaghetti Dinner
All employees are invited to volunteer for the president’s annual holiday spaghetti dinner scheduled for 4:30-7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, in Marian Hall Café. Forms were sent to each employees’ e-mail or you can click here to print the form indicating how you can help. Return all forms to the Campus Life Office by Wednesday, Nov. 21. For more information, call 829-6034. Volunteers are needed to:
- Roll meatballs & silverware on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. (wine and cheese served after we work!)
- Serve students on Thursday, Nov. 29, and you eat free!

Information Session
The School of Interactive Media and Design will hold an information session Monday, Nov. 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UIW SAC Dual Enrollment Center located at 1621 N. Main. The information session is for students who are interested in pursuing a degree in communication arts, computer graphic arts, computer information systems, fashion management and interior environmental design. Ethics Debate Team
One of the ethics debate teams from the Philosophy Department (consisting of Jennifer Velez, Denise Hernandez, and Anna Green) won a trophy for placing 3rd in their division, and 4th overall (out of 20 teams) at the Texas Independent College Foundation's Ethics Match which was held in Fort Worth on Nov. 1-2. Another team (consisting of Jennifer Velez, Anna Green, and Emmanuel Castillo) won the 4th place trophy (out of 16 competing teams) at the 10th Annual Texas Regional Ethics Bowlheld at St. Mary's University on Nov. 10. This last win made our team eligible to move on to the national competition. Drs. Paul Lewis and Doug Gilmour served as faculty sponsors of the Ethics Match team, and Dr. Bernadette O'Connor served as the faculty sponsor of the Ethics Bowl team. The National Championship Ethics Bowl will be held in San Antonio on Feb. 21. The UIW Ethics Team will be competing along with 32 other colleges and universities from all across the nation.
Education Honorees
This week was International Education Week, and the Dreeben School of Education honored the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word for their contributions to education at a reception Thursday.

Today is the last day to view the photography exhibit by world renowned photographer Wendy Watriss, who has documented some of the pain of Agent Orange, in the Semmes Gallery of the Fine Arts Building.

Human Resources has scheduled additional anti-harassment training sessions for this year. All employees are required to attend one session this calendar year. If you have not attended, please attend one of the following:

Volleyball Fundraiser
The UIW volleyball team is holding a fundraiser with help from Delicious Tamales. Orders will be taken until Nov. 30. The tamales will be delivered from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 12 during the men’s basketball game. Tamale choices are pork, jalapeño and bean, and cost $6 a dozen. Toy Drive
The Elf Louise Christmas Project provides toys for less fortunate children in the San Antonio community during the holiday season. Toys will be collected through Friday, Nov. 16 in collection boxes at the Wellness Center and also Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Light the Way ceremony.

Faculty Focus
Composer's Alliance of San Antonio Fall Concert
The world premiere of Passages for Solo Percussion, music composed by Dr. Ken Metz, professor of music at UIW, and former UIW adjunct instructor, Dr. Misook Kim, will be included at the fall concert of the Composer's Alliance of San Antonio. The concert will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 at the First Universalist Unitarian Church located on the southeast access road at the corner of I-10 and Loop 410. Suggested donation is $10 and $5 for students.
Reception for New Optometry Dean
Dr. Hani Ghazi-Birry has been selected as the founding dean of the School of Optometry. He will start Feb. 1, but will be here next week for a brief visit. There will be a UIW faculty and community reception for him from 2 - 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19 in the Library Special Collections Room. IWHS Golf Tournament

Father-Daughter Day
On Sunday, Nov. 18, about 500 dads, their IWHS daughters, and guests will convene at the Omni Hotel for Mass, formal dinner, entertainment, and Father-Daughter keepsake pictures. The activities will include a slideshow of dads and their daughters, "then" and "now"; a raffle for prizes including Spurs tickets, San Antonio riverbarge dinner ride, and other prizes.
Eighth Grade Open House
Join us for the St. Anthony Catholic High School Eighth Grade Open House on Sunday, Nov. 18. Please join us for Mass, food and fellowship. The schedule includes community liturgy at 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., lunch at 11:30 a.m., tours beginning at noon, and question and answer sessions in the library every 30 minutes. RSVP is appreciated but not required. SACHS is at 3200 McCullough Ave.
IWHS Food Drive
Incarnate Word High School at 727 E. Hildebrand is doing a food drive for the San Antonio Food Bank. The food bank has delivered five barrels, located in each religion classroom. Our goals are to fill them several times over and to have 100% participation. The drive will continue until Nov. 19.

Men’s Basketball Little Dribblers
Have sons, little brothers or nephews who love basketball!? They can join the UIW Men’s Basketball team as ball boys. Ball boys are needed to help rebound for players during warm-ups and help sweat mop the floor during timeouts. The first home game is Tuesday Nov. 20. The team is looking for 4th and 5th graders.
