Today, 37 faculty members and 232 students left this morning to participate in a day of philanthropy. The day of service is part of the UIW Meet the Mission program. The program encourages UIW faculty, students and staff to reach out to the San Antonio community by helping others in need and thus remembering the foundation for which the University was established in 1881.

Mission
Second Sunday Liturgy
Due to final renovations, the Chapel of the Incarnate Word will not hold a second Sunday Liturgy during September. The next second Sunday Liturgy in the Chapel will take place on Sunday, Oct. 14.

One More Day Until Wordstock
It’s finally here! Tomorrow, UIW will host Wordstock a back-to-school festival for the entire city. Come out and enjoy great food and live music from Flywood, the 5 Star Band and Window.
UIW, IWHS and SACHS faculty, students and staff enter free with their ID. All others are $5 and children under 12 are free. All proceeds from the event benefit the National Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the San Antonio Educational Partnership and the UIW Endowed Scholarship Fund.
Israeli Storyteller
Renowned Israeli storyteller and performance artist Noa Baum will visit UIW on Monday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. in Marian Hall Ballroom. Baum’s storytelling performances and workshops build bridges of understanding and compassion between East and West, American and Israeli, Arab and Jew, past and present.
Integrated Institute of Rural Development Speaker
The Integrated Institute of Rural Development (IIRD) has been recognized by the World Bank Global Development Network “as one of the ten most innovative development projects of most potential benefit to humanity.” Learn of the IIRD in Bangladesh from its founder Father William Christensen, SM on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 1:30 - 2:45 p.m. in the Library Auditorium.
The event is co-sponsored by the H-E-B School of Business and Administration, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, UIW Institute of World Cultures, Liturgical Outreach, Religious Studies, and Women’s Global Connection.

Hispanic Heritage Month
The Hispanic Heritage Month celebration will be held Sept. 15 - Oct. 15. Please contact Nilsa Villa Padilla (villapad@uiwtx.edu), President of the Hispanic Latino Association if you are planning/hosting events for Hispanic Heritage Month. She will add your events to their calendar.
Constitution Day
The UIW community is invited to attend the 3rd Annual Constitution Day event at 7 p.m. on Sept. 17 in the Mabee Library Auditorium. Judge Emilio Garza, of the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals will give a brief presentation on the Constitution followed by a discussion.

Study Abroad Fair

As part of the celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month, UIW will host a viewing of the film “Salt of the Earth” from 3-5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept.20 in the Library Auditorium. Immediately following the film there will be a discussion.

Payroll Luau
The Payroll Department will host a Payroll Luau Open House Celebration Today, Sept. 7 from 10:30 a.m. – noon in honor of National Payroll Week. Enjoy refreshments and soothing Hawaiian music. Play “Reverse Payroll Jeopardy” for a chance to win $100 gift card from Bank of America.
National Payroll Week celebrates the hard work by America’s 146 million wage earners and the payroll professionals that pay them. Together, through the payroll withholding system, they contribute, collect, report and deposit approximately $1.6 trillion, or 64.3% of the annual revenue of the U.S. Treasury.
The event is open to all.
Invitation to Annual White Coat Ceremony
The UIW community is invited to attend the Feik School of Pharmacy’s 2nd Annual White Coat Ceremony for the 2011 Doctorate of Pharmacy Class.
The ceremony will be held in the Rosenberg Sky Room on Friday, Sept. 14 from 10:30 am to noon.

Parking Notice
Parking will be limited as of noon today, Sept. 7, due to fencing and booths going up at the grounds of the Convocation and Natatorium in preparation for tomorrow’s Wordstock festival. On Saturday, Sept. 8 Avoca parking on the west side of the tennis courts will be accessible only thru the ICC entrance at 281 and Hildebrand.
Flu Shots
Flu shots will be available from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19 and from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26. The flu shots clinics will be on the second floor of the School of Nursing. Cost is $25.00 payable in cash or check made out to UIW. Supplies are limited. You must call (210) 829-3126 to make a flu shot appointment.

Faculty Focus
National Recognition
UIW nursing professor Michael Moon will be inducted into the Academy of Emergency Nursing by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). Moon will be one of eight emergency nurses to be inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Emergency Nursing (FAEN) at the Emergency Nurses Association 2007 Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City on Sept. 29.
Center Stage
Sharon Herbers, UIW Dreeben School of Education assistant professor, has written a play that will be produced by the South Cumberland Cultural Society at the Cowan Center for the Arts in Cowan, TN.
The play commemorates the 75th anniversary of the founding of Highlander Folk School, a center for adult education of community workers in social movements.

Games
St. Anthony Catholic High School (SACHS) Varsity football team will take on Cole High School at 7:30 p.m. at Cole High School.
SACHS volleyball teams will play Highlands High School on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Incarnate Word High School
Grandparents Day
Incarnate Word High School (IWHS) will hold Grandparents Day starting at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11. During the day, IWHS grandparents and special friends will meet with IWHS administration, attend Mass, each lunch with their student and attend classes.
Game Day
The IWHS volleyball teams will play Boerne High School today in Boerne. The 9th grade team will start at 5 p.m.; the JV team will play at 6 p.m. and the Varsity team will take to the court at 7:30 p.m.

Golden Age of Radio
The Extended Run Players, in cooperation with the Theatre Arts Department at the University of the Incarnate Word, present “Golden Age of Radio,” featuring episodes of “The Bickersons”, “The Lone Ranger”, “Let’s Pretend”, and “Burns and Allen”.
Join us as we tune in and enjoy the classic radio comedies, dramas and adventures of yesteryear. All performances will take place in the Cheever Downstage II Theatre on the UIW campus.
