Meet the Mission
To continue the traditions and Mission of the Sisters’ of Charity of the Incarnate Word, “Meet the Mission” was initiated in 2006. The traditions are those of providing service to less fortunate members of our community. The faculty’s Mission is to convey these traditions to our students. The university currently provides resources and seminars for faculty to improve their knowledge of Catholic social teachings and applications of these principles in the classroom. For these reasons, Meet the Mission was formed as an extension of the classroom rather than as an event. This allows faculty to teach students by doing and by living the example of the Mission of the university. This year’s Meet the Mission day of service will take place on Friday, Sept. 7. The steering committee members are: Sr. Audrey O'Mahony, assistant to the president, Mission Effectiveness (audrey@uiwtx.edu); Dr. Glenn Ambrose, assistant professor of religious studies (ambrose@uiwtx.edu); Dr. Roger Barnes, professor of sociology (barnes@uiwtx.edu); and Dr. Harold Rodinsky, assistant professor of psychology (rodinsky@uiwtx.edu). If you would like to participate in this year’s day of service, please contact a member of the committee.
Second Sunday Liturgy
Due to final renovations, the Chapel of the Incarnate Word will not hold a second Sunday Liturgy during August and September. The next second Sunday Liturgy in the Chapel will take place on Sunday, Oct. 14.

Red Alert: New emergency notification program
UIW officials strongly encourage students, faculty and staff to enroll in Red Alert, an emergency text and email messaging service. Red Alert enables UIW representatives to quickly communicate with you in case of an emergency via email to your Cardinal Mail account and a text message to your cell phone.
Red Alert is an opt-in service provided by UIW. If we enroll as many members of the UIW community as possible, we will have significantly increased our ability to communicate important safety-related announcements as quickly as possible. To enroll, go to www.getrave.com/login/uiw. You will need to use your Cardinal Mail username and password to log in; follow the instructions on the first page of the website. If you encounter difficulties with the registration process, contact the UIW Help Desk at 2721 for assistance. Please note that you may be charged for Red Alert test and notification messages, depending on your cellular plan.
UIW respects your privacy; we will never use Red Alert except to deliver critical information such as campus emergencies or weather-related closings. Our goal is to ensure that all members of the UIW community feel as safe and secure as possible here. But it is essential for you to take the first step: enroll in Red Alert to help us notify you if an emergency should arise. Tell your friends in the UIW community about Red Alert.
