Foot Nurses Receive Award. On June 25, St. Luke’s Lutheran Health Ministry executive director, Vicki Boyce, presented an award check for $2,500 to nursing professor Dr. Sara Kolb and the UIW Foot Nurses Program team. Boyce said the UIW program “accomplishes both medical care and education for an underserved population and treats a medical issue often ignored. ”The Foot Nurses are led by UIW’s School of Nursing and Health Professions and overseen by Kolb. The team partners with St. Philip of Jesus Catholic parish to help prevent complications of diabetes by teaching low-income diabetic elders and their families how to examine and care for feet to avoid foot ulcers and other resulting health problems. UIW nursing faculty and students also conduct foot examinations as part of the program. Also pictured are Dr. Jean Deliganis, St. Philip parish nurse, and Fr. Michael, parish director.
